I have a sore throat, redness, pus pockets on the back of my throat, tonsils and on the palate (roof of the mouth), NO fever...The dr. gave me antibiotics for amoxicillin and said that after a rapid strep test, it was NOT strep. Been two days and the medicine is seeming to help with the soreness, but it looks like there are more pus pockets. I'm just curious if anyone knows what it could be?

Tonsillitis? Acute Sinusitis? Could it be an STD (syphilis, etc), I don't think so because I have no other syptoms of such...

thanks for the answers

I did actually ask my dr., but I was one of those patients that happened to get an emergency appt. because there was some free time in the office schedule. So, she didn't exactly stay around very long. She basically said that my sinuses are blocked up and they are simply emptying themselves. But since she was rushing, I just have my concerns about her diagnosis.

It is a sore throat that is not strep infection. Stay on your amoxicillin and finish all your medicine, that should clear it up. Use your imagination for health and healing the condition, by seeing it getting better and healthy again, rather than imagining other disease that is not there . Get well soon.

You seem to have multiple infections, some of which, [but not all] can be treated by a broad spectrum antibiotic like Amoxicillin.

The following page gives full information about its usage, precautions and side effects.

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a685001.html

It says, "Amoxicillin is in a class of medications called penicillin-like antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, and other viral infections."

Till your condition is fully diagnosed, starting with sputum and blood tests under your doctor's instructions, nobody can give you the right answer because there is a possibility that you may also be having a viral infection.

Please visit the site I suggested and follow the instructions for proper use of Amoxicillin because your prescription cannot be refilled by any pharmacist.
