Diphenhydramine is not the reason why there is a limit as to how many of these you can take - I've seen 100-150mg prescribed per day. It's the tylenol that can hurt you (specifically, liver damage) if you take more than the recommended amount each day.
The other ingredients in Tylenol severe allergy/cold really won't hurt you too bad if you take a bit more than the recommended amount.
If you have severe allergies, ask your doctor for the following -
Flonase - a nasal steroid spray that works WONDERS for allergies. Top ten prescription item in the country.
Allegra/Zyrtec - these are antihistamines that may work for you if claritin does not work.
If your product is not working for you even if you take it daily, it may be time to talk to your doctor about the above remedies or ask him for an alternative diagnosis just in case you have something else going on.

During the spring/summer months I take Tylenol Severe Allergy everyday. I usually take them every 5-6 hours or so, and the PM version at night before bed. I am still alive and kicking. You just have to make sure not to take any other allergy medicines or any other pain medications at the same time. Especially no other Tylenol products. The Diphenhydramine is the thing that overdoses most people. Make sure to drink lots of water.
You just have to be aware that it will stop working after a while, same with Claritin. I usually have to take one for a month or 2 and then switch to the other until that stops working, then change back.
Another thing, if you are taking any medications, vitamins, or herbs that are "boosting you immune system" stop taking them! They make your allergies worse. I was taking herbs to boost my immune system in the winter months and my allergies got 10 times worse!

I had no allergies until I was 17 and then all of a sudden, I was getting hives, rashes, massive headaches that lead to migraines. . I was having reactions to everything from foods, beverages, dust, feathers, cats, dogs, outside allergens. I went to a doctor and had an allergy test done, and about 3/4 of the page was filled of all these things that I was allergic to. I was prescribed to have allergy shots rather than taking pills. I couldn't tell you by experience how the shots work. I'm stubborn, I don't like taking medication for things unless I have no choice. After trying to eliminate the best that could, the things I was allergic to, my allergies eventually, for the most part, went away. Now, I am still allergic to apples, for example, before when I ate even so much as 2-3 bites I would start hives within 15 minutes, but that's because my body was constantly trying to fight off everything else that I was either consuming or surrounding myself with that I was allergic to. Now that I know what my allergens are, I stay away from them, and can still enjoy the things I'm allergic to in moderation. without having much to worry about. By not pushing your body, and having too many allergens around you and inside of your body, you're able to handle things more. Back then I couldn't be around cats nor dogs, now I Live with two cats, and rarely have reactions to them. With all of that said, go see a doctor, I really don't Think taking allergy pills every day is a healthy thing for a person. You'll find out what your allergic to, and that in itself can eliminate so much of what you are feeling. The way I see it is, if you really have to take that many pills a day, why not try to one shot and see how it works for you. Taking all those pills in the long run will destroy your stomach. Hopes this helps you in any way. Take Care :o)

I think the box also tell you that after several days of taking the recommended amounts, if nothing changes, to see your doctor. It should be safe to take for a few days as directed.

Since you have allergies that severe, I would talk to my doctor about getting on a stronger prescription med. I have very severe allergies and finally was put on Singular, one pill daily and haven't had any problems since. Hope this helps you!
