I am glad that generally speaking you are alright. When you say, "maximum compensation," I sure hope you mean fair and equitable.

An insurance co's job is to put you back in the same place as you were before an accident, no better. The are responsible for the following:

1. Paying for your vehicle damages. Your car will be repaired with like parts and put back in the same state it was prior to the loss.
2. Paying for a substitute vehicle. They will need to pay for a reasonable rental for the estimated down-time of your vehicle only. That's while it's at the shop being fixed. They do not have to pay for extra insurance as that's something your policy should take care of. Reasonable is usually 25-30 dollars a day.
3. Paying for your injuries. Injuries are subjective. If you didn't break any bones you shouldn't need to treat with a doctor for very long...they'll pay for any reasonable and necessary medical costs. Only treat as you need it, because they will know based on your doctor's notes when your treatment should be done.
4. Pain and suffering-these are punitive damages that are above and beyond your injuries. If you lose work, you can show them financial proof and they may pay for that as well.
-----------------
Lastly, an attorney is only going to take your case if he feels he's going to make money off you. Any attorney will take at least 1/3 of your settlement for punitive damages as payment. Unless you really think you're going to get 1/3 more by hiring one, this is a bad call. Please trust that any insurance company is going to pay you fairly...it's their jo to protect their client and they will take care of you to compensate you properly!

no one can answer this on here. How do you expect us to know the extent of yoru injuries and damages to your car? If all you both have is "whiplash" and you just go get it checked out once.. dont expect much.. maybe 500-1000 if your lucky (or maybe just your medical bills paid) ONLY if you are permenantly injured can you expect a larger settlement. As far as "getting a lawyer ASAP"- i suggest you read other peoples questions who are having problems with lawyers. All lawyers do is dely the claim and keep 1/3 of the money for themselves.

If your only in this for money (which is certainly sounds like you are)... dont expect much.. and be happy if you get 1k or so for yourself for this ax

First I hope you were not hurt badly.. don't settle any claims before you are sure.. Next; I hope that who ever hit you has insurance and you got all of the needed information and a police report.. Lastly, if they don't have insurance, and you did not buy "Uninsured Motorist" insurance for your car.. you may have been rear ended more than you know...

Be honest and don't claim injuries or damages that aren't there.
