Chase car, people to hold the balloon, fans, unloading trailers, blasting hot propane flame, no control, rolling it back up, someone to grab the top rope, etc, etc.

Way too many people and hassles involved to get the thing in the air.

The quiet floating part was nice, but the rest of it was a real pain for my kind of personality I suppose.

Never seen a birth. I know nothing about medical procedures.

I watched my first daughter (the one who became a pilot) being born. It was a marvelous experience, but I find it an extremely poor analogy for what MM is talking about. Guess I should have had a different sperm swim faster, too, because I'd a hell of a lot rather crank a pair of GTSIO 520s and go where I want, when I want, without any help from a ground crew.

Have you ever seen a real life birthing?

You have Drs., Nurses, Anesthesiologists, worried Grandparents, Scared to death Fathers, Friends and Well wishers all who are there to complete this journey into life. Seams like a lot of crap to me. However getting it started is a blast! Some of the most memorable events of any ones lifetime will lie ahead. So many sperm tried and failed. Had there been a little better swimmer in your past maybe you would be able to see the magnificence of what all these others did to help you get aloft. Sometimes we need to give more deeply of ourselves in order to find the true beauty and joy life has to answer. Maybe you need to spend some time in a chase car, or hold the rope so someone else can enjoy this, in order to fully appreciate the magnitude of having a ride in a hot air balloon!

Why do people go up in Gliders? I mean you gotta be towed aloft. What a hassle.
Why do people climb Mountains? What a hassle.
Why do people build Kit Planes instead of buying a built one? What a hassle.
Why do we do anything like that?

Cause we LIKE IT.

I mean obviously your boss can afford it. He must enjoy it or he wouldn't continue to do it.
Personally I'd have just said "OH WOW THIS IS COOL."

BTW Remember this.
Pilots without Maintainers/Ground Crews, are just pedestrians with Jackets and Sunglasses ^_-

As a pilot I can see the lure of the balloon, but too much is left to chance with the balloon. I need more control in my flying machines. Not my cup of tea, but to each his own,eh?

Now, the glider is something I'd like to try...

I have been a power pilot for 35 years I can't understand for the life of me why anyone would want to do that, for the same reasons you give.

You've been there and done that. If someone still has to explain it to you, then you'll never understand. Just move on.
