Depends. All atheists have no belief in God. Strong atheists believe there is/are no God(s). Any atheist I've ever met believes there is no supernatural of any kind. And no mystical elements. So no faeries, gnomes elves, angels, demons or monsters (except for the human variety - killers and the like.)

A WYSIWYG world, basically. But we also believe in science, so some non-WYSIWYG things exist - the huge range of radiation, the sub-atomic world and more, where we have enough science to measure or even theorize, but always based on fact. Take your average scientifically-aware believer who accepts things like ToE and quarks and gluons - remove *all* of the supernatural, and you've got a picture of us.

[Edit] Cop-out? We assume *reality* (WYSIWYG): nothing more, nothing less (except what can't be seen but can be scientifically measured). Give an example of what you *might* mean? (...Because you make *no* sense at all.) I think you can't understand because you've always made supernatural assumptions yourself. That doesn't make it a need for others.

You're asking 2 different questions, since I am not an atheist.
What do atheists assume? They assume there is no God and until they can prove otherwise, they will remain atheists.
I think many are further along the path to enlightenment than some religious people who have never questioned or second-guessed the religious dogma they were brought up with.
What are my basic assumptions? That everyone should have the right to question religious doctrine without fear of persecution or harassment. I "assume" nothing. I believe in what I have found to have truth and meaning through my life experiences. That real love (not power) is a synonym for God.

Atheists have come to assume that anyone who wishes to bait them will not be able to spell the word atheist, typo or not.

Atheists assume that any universe that does not operate consistently (i.e. is subject to "divine intervention") is incomprehensible.

Atheists assume that any premise that cannot be tested is not reliable.

Atheists assume that a deity that was powerful enough to create the entire universe would have created it so that any intervention was unnecesary, therefore undetectable, to the point that the god's existence would be undetectable as well.

I assume we know a lot more know about the universe and reality today than we did three thousand years ago when the stories of the Hebrew Bible were oral traditions.

I assume that there are no supernatural entities that can tamper with the laws of nature, and therefore it is possible for us to understand those laws in great detail via careful observation & experimentation.

Most atheists are highly objective, which means we are open-minded and try to avoid assumptions altogether. This doesn't mean that we can fully achieve it, but most of us strive for as much objectivity as we can muster.

Most atheists have learned (or I suppose some may assume) that reality is something that can be perceived and understood based on our own ability to reason.

I hope that helps.

I don't care to read ignorance, but I will answer your question, with a question. Who do you think created you if it wasn't GOD? Somebody had to do it, and you will find the truth in the Holy Bible, I feel so sorry for people that are in denial, and living blind. We make our lives what they've become, we should blame no one for our actions, and sorry lifestyles that are so empty.

How do empty people try to make themselves feel better, by stuffing themselves with fantasy stuff and telling themselves, this is God, a cookie.

Better one, my life is so empty, no one loves me, I need someone to make me happy, I cant live without someone, co-dependency to feel some love. Some people hear voices telling them to kill themselves and still don't believe that's the devil. Or don't do that or go that way, and it just feels wrong to do something that just doesn't feel right, and still don't believe that was Christ warning you. It's always just Karma!

I assume the supernatural doesn't exist. I assume my lights will come on when I flip the switch, that my car will start when I turn the key, that my daughter will wake me up at precisely 6:15 am everyday of the week.....that last one being the only one that has never failed lol.

Most theists and agnostics believe in science, which requires proof. An assumption comes from lack of evidence. Faith is an assumption. We have trouble having faith because we are people that require proof. Theists assume, we conjecture.

I don't assume anything. I have my thoughts about what makes more sense; God or Big Bang/evolution, but I don't assume anything.

Where was technology thousands of years ago? Just because something hasn't been proven doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. And yes, this argument goes both ways.

I assume that the world is a natural place.

I assume that the world is not run by the supernatural.

I assume that the human mind is capable of great things.

I assume that life has great value.

I assume that we are here to live, love and leave a legacy.

Stuff like that.
