I have an 02 Xterra SE SC - I have seen a couple of offerings for a supercharger pulley upgrade - I thought awhile back I saw that NISMO had one, but I don't see it on the site now. Does anyone know if they actually make one? Additionally, does anyone know if adding the upgrade will affect smog ratings? I live in CA.

Thanks.

While I do not know for sure, I would highly doubt that one is made by Nissan. NISMO is Nissan's high-performance company, and would have been responsible for making the pulley you have on your Xterra currently. Upgrading the S/C pulley will increase the boost to your engine. While this will give you more power, it also places greater strain on the engine. This is not something Nissan wants happening, especially if the vehicle is under warranty.

I don't think i every saw a pulley up grade for xterra's but if you found one after market it wouldn't be covered under Nissan warranty .. adding a pulley would only cause a small boost in positive manifold pressure maybe 2to3 psi which may add like 10 hp the xterra has a by pass valve on the charger that prevents over boost any way so some form of software is needed to get any power gains ..

1/2 inch smaller pulley really helps. But anything to make more boost will void your warranty. With 6 years on that truck pulley, exhaust and K&N air filter really won't shorten the engine life all that much. You will need a special strong puller to remove and install the pulley. See Pulley Boy's web site. Actually the smog is another issue the supercharger does not really turn on at the smog test rpms and power. I have replaced several pulleys and just put the plastic covers over them. Get one size smaller Goodyear Gatorback fan belt so the supercharger will not cause belt slippage. And almost all the time the old sheetmetal pulley gets bent and is not reuseable.

Hello;

I own and operate a high/performance and repair shop specializing in Supercharging. I modify all types of Supercharged vehicles, including Nissans, and have a 2002 Frontier SC shop truck that currently runs a 2.4" SC pulley, K+N complete FIPK and water injection. My truck went from 6psi to 11psi boost and I still have a 2.3" pulley sitting on the shelf for more boost. No detonation, no driveability problems with this setup, only WAY more power when I choose to put the foot down. I recommend quick-change pulleys over pressed-on steel ones as the force required to remove them is immense....it is not intended for do-it-yourself. Feel free to email me directly if you have any further questions at beretta@sunwave.net.
