note that its not AK since it ain't automatic. I seen this wolf and silver bear ammo and its real cheap. Currently I buy bricks of federal to feed my ar and it costs almost double. Is it worthwile to buy a K-47? If I get one i'm thinking about getting one of those norinco chinese types.

I have an old Norinco SKS... love it. Ammo is really cheap too, last time we bought a case it was just under 10 cents a round. But that was a few years ago. I've probably shot 15,000 rounds through my SKS at various rifle comps. and never had a jam or mechanical failure. I have had some bad batches of ammo, that cheap ball ammo is horribly inconsistant, but you get what you pay for when it comes to ammo. I would think that the 7.62x39 AK-47 would probably be just as good if not better.

Edit: Bound's hubby is right about the accuracy. We shot all our targets at 100 yds. using 300 and 600 yard "simulated" targets. At 100 yds. even off a bench rest the best group that the 7.62x39 could muster was about 4 inches, and that was with decent hunting ammo, Winchester I believe. The cheap ball ammo held about a 6 inch group at best. At 200-300 yards you would be lucky if you hit what you were shooting at. I only bought it because it was cheap to shoot, not for the accuracy. I needed something I could use in the CMP to qualify for an M1 Garand.

I dunno, Man.
While I respect the design, I can't get away from the fact that this was the weapon of the enemies of freedom for decades.

Even worse, the Chinese (norinco) Avatomat Kalishnikova's are the same damn rifles that killed and maimed so many American soldiers in Vietnam.

With all the negative press this design has recieved since they began to be imported here, and the subsequent gun-bans and anti-semi-auto laws inspired by the "evil appearance" of the AK47, I'm not too sure you couldn't say it's still an enemy of freedom in the United States.
- not that I don't believe you shouldn't have every right to own one here! You most certainly should!

I'm just saying that the AK47 in the U.S. has been a PR nightmare for the case for legal gun ownership in the U.S.,
Mainly as a result of it's well-known image being stuck in the corner of the screen behind the anchorman's head everytime anybody gets shot with anything, be it an AK or not.

The obvious association with terrorist elements worldwide doesn't do much for it's reputation in my opinion either.

If you do decide to go with one, I recomend the line of AK-types from Arsenal USA. They are of Bulgarian origin, and their quality far exceeds the Norinco's.

Bound's hubby here:

First, "AK" stands for "Automat Kalishnikov". In this reference, "Automat" does not mean fully automatic. It stands for "auto loading".

I would stick with your .223, especially if you're looking for any degree of precision and accuracy. On the whole, AKs and SKSs are not that accurate. With the best accuracy range barely reaching 300 yards.

Good luck.

Well, they are cheap enough. If really good accuracy is not important, then the AK-47 is fine.
