I know boot is supposedly tougher but I mean if you take an E-3 11B and an E-3 0311 what would be the difference between those two people?

The perception that a Marine is a better warfighter than a Soldier is largely due to better advertising. The Marine Corps has done a great job of marketing itself as the few and the proud whereas the Army has struggled from one bland campaign to another.

Which infantryman is better? Well I think that all depends on the battlefield. If you are talking amphibious assault, I'd take the Marine. If you are talking Urban warfare, the Army; because the Army MOUT training is vastly Superior to the Corps'. If we are talking open ground combat, oh, probably equal.

Both are tough in their own right. Army Infantry trains to endure and persevere over an extended period of time whereas USMC trains to go all-out for a short period of time. Those are the fundamental differences between their missions as well. This is why the Army does year long tours (at shortest) and Marines tend to stay for 4-6 months.

Oh and to correct another answer, you need a 31 on the ASVAB to get in the Army, same as the Marines.

When you talk about 11B and 0311 (I am assuming that is infantry in the corps) there is no difference. The difference is that other job titles in the marines go through infantry basic training while in the army they go to club med. I had the pleasure of going into the army as an 11B and the training was pretty tough mentally. I then reclassified to military police after I had been in 4 years so I could deploy and they were allowed to have cell phones. I lost all respect for the army after seeing that they are now training pansies.

Don't get me wrong I do think the army is better then the marine corps any day but training wise I do wish the Army would stop being a bunch of lazy pansy training bleepity bleeps.

We as Lance Corporal take pride in what we do. The Lance Corporal is the back bone of the Marine Corps Infantry. We're taught discipline, responsibility, and leadership from the get-go. As a Lance Corporal we keep what we learned in our brain-housing group and we later on teach other Marines what we know. If we are ever in a situation where our squad leader isn't available, that senior Lance Corporal will make an effective decision as to what shall happen (if another NCO is not available of course, [chain of command]). We don't always need an NCO to make decisons for us, we make it for ourselves as long as it's an effective one. Further down the road in our career, we begin to hold billets of leadership. Many Lance Corporals are billeted an NCO billet because of his skills as a Marine. To be a non-vet Marine holding an NCO billet is a major feat in a combat vet company.

A Marine knows when to bring the fight to the opposition forces. Apparently the Army doesn't know that. Their SOP is to run when under attacked, no bull. The Army has better weapons because they are better funded. Every branch has it's pro's/con's.

In the Army, they prefer to follow then lead. Many look for their Team Leader/Squad Leader as to what move they'll make next. They don't want responsibilty placed on them. Many choose to become a Specialist rather than a Corporal because it's an easier job than being an NCO. Specialist and Corporals are paid the same amount except they're not responsible for others (from the mouth of a Spc). Don't get me wrong, there are some motivated soldiers that are the exception.

no longer likely, on a similar time as Marine infantry are far greater advantageous experienced popping out of SOI than military infantry popping out of Infantry OSUT. That training distinction straight away disappears as quickly as you get on your unit and commence training there. people prefer to place to lots value on AIT , shall we face it, no person is familiar with a thank you to actualy do thier interest, popping out of AIT. The quote " Marines are greater advantageous experienced than the army " in basic terms holds genuine for the time of peace time. because of the fact the Marine Corps training funds for person gadgets, is greater than it incredibly is for many military gadgets, so Marines practice greater. yet that isn't peace time from now on. Now the two the army and Marines are training finished time, the two pre deployment training, deployed or submit deployment training. So the variations in training time have disapperared.

Semper Fi! As far as bragging rights that question has been thrown around long before you were born. So I'll add fuel to the fire and say of course the Marines. At the end of the day every military organization serves it own function and I'm very grateful for All of them. Even if I make fun of them at times. The answer to your question though is in terms of responsibility. All of my family joined the Army and some of them were grunts. And based off what they shared with me, I held more responsibility in my position for my team, my squad at times, and even so my platoon at times. You are given alot of responsibility when you reach Lance Corporal and you show you have the mentality to carry it. Semper Fi!

Having been in the Army & Marine Corps., I think I can help you with this question. You limited the scope of your question to infantry MOS for each branch, so I will try to stick to that. The combat Marine is better trained. The Army Grunt is better equiped. Morale is higher in Marine Corps. combat arms than in the Army. The Army gets better fire support than the Marines. (The Army owns the gunships & has more artillery). Unfortunately, neither translates well to civilian life. They are well prepared to be cops & cab drivers.

No body who willingly risks their lives is better than the other. I admire and support both of them.
The Marines is harder in basic trianing, but other than that, they are both challenging.
THe difference, is that one would have a marines symbol tattoed on their bicep, and the other wouldn't.
I want to join the Army because it has more of the type of job specality that I want, and more trianing facilities for that.

I see the difference between the Marine's and the Army as this - Marine's are a part of the Navy, get over it they are... its how they were started. The Army is a branch all on its own with the Air Force as their off chute. God Bless all our soldiers, if your in harms way - thank you -

I don't know what your E-3 grade questions are, but I can tell you this...the ASVAB entry scores to get into the Marines is twice that of the Army. I scored an 82 on the ASVAB, but you only need a 17 to get into the Army. You need at least a 34 to get into any other service.

boot camp in the army is so much more fun getting up early and shining boots and waiting in lines all that training to become a real man. marines are bigger and toucher and braveer. they geet sent into the initial fighting always first. why? they are young and trained to charge into a flaming pit no matter what. heck i guess the navy would be better for somebody who doesn't want to be all that damn brave, eh? i hae closterphobia and could never be in a damn tank. loud noises scare the hell out of me. and i am easily pushed around by guys with more testosterone. i am not gay for soe reason. love kissing real girls. am strangely replusedby gay advances. i am thinking coast guard where you speed around the harbor in speed boats (not helicopters!!) and save drowning peoople or chasing away jaws or something. whatever. until the draft why bother. oh yeh, they will pay for you to become a student when you finish being a boot and or soldier or whatever. yeh, need that education or its burgerking with the stinky onions and flipping those brown hocky pucks on the grill for month after month etc. jsut thinking ..... ummmm
