Truman could have invaded Japan that his Generals estimated would cost 1 million American dead or bomb the country to hell (like they did to Dresden, Germany) killing everyone.

probably Why - because of the fact the only different selection on the time replace into an invasion of Japan. the possibilities of Japan triumphing the conflict replace into slender to none, yet they does no longer resign/negotiate. the strategies on the time have been - a million. Invade Japan and lose 100K's of Allied squaddies (ninety% American) and untold form of eastern lives. 2. Drop this new bomb that no person knew precisely what might ensue and take a examine out and tension Japan to supply up and a minimum of save the allied forces from severe numbers of casualties. bear in mind that the U. S. did distinctive above floor nuclear sorting out after the top of WWII, exposing their very own squaddies to the radiation. i do no longer probably think of they knew what the outcomes have been going to be previous to unleashing the nuclear genie. additionally, utilising the bomb bumped off all doubt approximately which u . s . replace into now the #a million superpower. It gave the U. S. a miles better place in the publish WWII international.

In early 1944 the war planners in Washington started to plan for the invasion of Japan with the knowledge that Japan must be brought to surrender/defeat no later than 1 year after the defeat of Germany. 1st was the amphibous assault to secure Iwo Jima to give B-29's a secure landing area other than the ocean (2900 sorties landed there after the fall of Iwo)
They came up with Operation Downfall which was divided into 2 parts
Operation Olympic was to begin on November 1, 1945 with the invasion of southern Kyushu with troops that already deployed in the Pacific and it's goal was to secure and gain a foothold on the island. Also continuing would be the complete naval blockade and aerial bombardment to bring the Japanese government to surrender terms.
The 2nd phase was Operation Coronet and set to take place on March 1, 1946 with landings taking place on the Tokyo plain....troops used for this landing would be divisions redeployed from the European Theatre after the German surrender and would also included Army Air Force bomber groups also redeployed.
The land units were to be commanded by Gen MacArthur and naval units By Admiral Nimitz.
Estimated casaulty figures for both phases of Downfall were in the 1 million plus range for US and allied troops and 1.5 - 2 million plus
for the Japanese,
These invasion plans were in effect as the a-bombs were dropped.
Just an interesting sidenote. In October 1945 a major typhoon
blew threw the Philipine Islands and Taiwan which would of been major staging areas for the invasion force and completely devasted the area.
Hope this answers your question!

Realistically there are 3 options that Truman had.
1. Drop the bomb, which he did, the rest is history
2. Invasion: The cost of lives was estimated in the millions just for Allied casualties. (Does not mention how many million Japanese would die)
3. Blockade: slow starvation of millions that would take a long time.
Personally I think Truman picked the right choice that led to the least loss of life.

There was one other alternative = the USA was going to invade Japan. They made a conscious decision to drop the bomb thinking that it would save more lives than an invasion on both sides. Barbaric and inhumane is what I think...

The alternative was invading japan and facing suicidal soldiers running at you, and suicidal citizens jumping off cliffs rather than surrendering. The Americans saw this when they invaded Okinawa. There is archive video of Okinawans jumping off cliffs rather than facing the humility of surrender. Remember that the Japanese are a very proud people and would fight to the last person. We needed a way to 'break their backs' without killing every single one of them.
The Americans decided that we'd rather be known as the only country to ever use 'the bomb' than be known as a country who wiped out an entire civilization. If we hadn't used the bomb, there wouldn't be any toyota's, nintendo's or sony's. that would've sucked...

Fighting Japanese Loyal Fighters on their Beach while they were dug in. Thus blockading and embargoing Japan...starving the non military population. Bombing their industries and infrastructure and making the war last 10 years. Costing millions of lives.

Prolonged fighting with the fiercest enemy we had ever faced who had no fear, no regret - indeed they were EAGER to make a kamikaze run at us, who would not surrender down to the last man, who's philosophy was that it was a great honor to die in battle. Or, we could let the country who dragged us into WW2 just get away with it and get cocky, maybe they would do it again.
Even today they get pissed off at us when they remember the day the bombs dropped - I know, my brother visited Japan not too long ago.

Nothing. Letting Japan continue to attack America? The atomic bomb taught those slanty eyed japs who was boss! Japan shouldn't have attacked the American mainland. That was a stupid decision. I guess they should have thought about what they were doing before they did it. The bombs weren't as destructive as they could have been. I believe they were detonated above the ground which reduces fallout pollution. But I may be wrong about the way they were detonated. I know that some people within 100 meters from where the bomb was dropped survived the blast by being in strong concrete buildings.
You have to realize that if the bombs weren't dropped, the Japanese wouldn't have surrendered, and the war would have continued and many more Japanese would have been killed by conventional explosives and a fierce ground war. Countless numbers of Americans also could have been bombed. The bomb stopped the fighting. You have to remember the Japanese people were totally brainwashed into serving their dictator/king and the royal family. They were willing to die for their leaders because they had been brainwashed. Most of these people weren't much of a loss if you ask me. I guess they picked a bad time to test the might of the United States.
The war would have been worse if the bombs weren't dropped, because every japanese person was willing to die for nothing, not even 72 virgins like those crazy islamic goofs. Islam promises 72 virgin little girls to have sex with if you kill yourself in a suicide bombing or hurt the enemy in a jihad. Only a fake religion would promise worldly pleasures in heaven. Do you really think in heaven people have sex? and have wives? lmao. Heaven is supposed to be where your soul goes and it's supposed to be different than earth, nothing like it at all. Yet Islam leads you to believe it's nothing like earth, but if you kill yourself trying to murder an enemy you will get 72 little female children virgins to have sex with up in heaven? uhh Considering Islam is a religion that supposedly doesn't allow people on earth to have multiple sex partners unless you are married, I think that is quite humorous. So let me get this straight. You can't have sex with 72 virgins on earth but you can in heaven? So on earth it's a major sin and you go to hell but in heaven you get lots of sex? uhhhh makes alot of sense!
The japs were just as twisted as the muslim radicals. Islam is taking over! Be prepared! we are fighting the same type of thing as the suicide bombers in japan during the war, except muslims are more perverted and driven by promises of sexual intercourse with little girls in heaven. Be ready for the islam enemy! They are taking over and they even say they are trying to take over the world and kill everyone who isnt' muslim and kill anyone who wont convert to islam. muslims will openly say this to you. They say Islam is the only way and they have no tolerance for any religion but their own.
May I add Islam is the third middle-eastern type language and it appeared after Christianity and Judaism. Judaism was the first one, Christianity came after and is very similar to Judaism (jewish religion), and Islam came many many many years later. AND has parts from Judaism and Christianity. It is almost an exact copy. Jesus is even in Islam, except he is just a prophet, not the Messiah.
Muslims also eat kosher food but they call it Halal, and they don't eat pork, just like jews. Islam is a copycat religion with a little eastern arab twist. It's nothing more than a copy of the 2 prior religions, Judaism and Christianity. It's nonsense!
It's going to take more than nuclear bombs to get rid of this sickness. We let them into europe and north America. We need to get rid of them and send them all back to the middle-east unless they are assimilated and not patriotic terrorists. If their countries were so great they wouldnt be living in europe and america. ******* scumbags!

You should read any number of books on the subject. There are many available in any library but the obvious answer is to have kept fighting in the trenches and in the air or give up and go home.
