I agree with 'In China' above and want to chime in as an agnostic (that leans towards Mahayana Buddhism if anything):

Your picture of Islam is biased. It assumes that the strictest possible reading of the Quran is the one that predominates throughout all schools of Islam and all believers of those schools. The strictest possible reading of the Bible would also lead towards a very stringent, violent convert-by-sword belief, yet most, if not all, schools of Christianity choose to emphasize the good things found both in the Old and New Testaments, rather than letting their faith be defined by the negatives.

All Muslims I have met do the same with their religion: They believe in Islam for the good things contained within the book and the good teachings of Mohammed. The essence of all religions is to lead a moral life, to be honest with yourself and your faith, and to love your neighbor. Not one Muslim I have met has treated their beliefs any differently than that, and most Christians (all but two) that I have met have done the same (note: I've met proportionately far more Christians, hence the disparity.)

To let your view of a religion be defined by fanatics, dogma, and misrepresentations is to have a pretty closeminded view of how faith and religion operate.

ok, i visit take a stab at this one. i prefer to be hassle-free, and that i do no longer purpose to offend, yet a number of what I say might are available in the process harshly. I say sorry for that for the time of develop. it is not only one journey that befell. it form of feels that a transforming into type of, people interior the West are being instructed that Muslims are offended approximately cartoons, or protesting the remark the Pope made, or bombing London or Mumbai or Madrid or Bali. And sure, Muslims do communicate up against it, even though it many times looks that for all people who does, there are a dozen greater yelling "Allahu Akbar" interior the history. It gets to be a joke while a Muslim team demands a "day of rage," because it form of feels that *each* day is an afternoon of rage for them. upload to that an exceedingly vocal minority interior the Muslim inhabitants who communicate approximately Jihad and that the West would desire to be triumph over, on a similar time as making recruitng video clips that tutor beheadings of captives ... you will locate why people start to get a bad thought. i think the genuine concern is that folk do exactly no longer see maximum of the attractive faith you describle. frequently what we see is a marvelous type of anger and violence. Is it incorrect to decide one thousand million people by ability of the strikes of that few? It certainly is. yet i think of there are not sufficient examples to counter it that would make maximum folk think again. I prefer it weren't this way, and that i do no longer see a speedy and hassle-free fix.

First of all respectfully the Quran is not about the life of Muhammad or his family. Muhammad's name is mentioned only in the Quran mabey five or six times in comparison to Jesus who name is mentioned honorably more times than I can count.. Muhammad was a human like you and I except of his mission to spread Islam. I'm not going tit for tat but if you read the Bible and you follow Jesus you must follow the old prophets like Jesus said "I have not come to do away with the LAW or the Prophets". Read of the Prophets in the Bible and by comparison (I hate comparing prophets cause their all the same even Jesus) Muhammad was placid in nature. Read of how Moses was supposed to have ordered his men to kill every Philisteen men, children even the old and women except the virgins. So please if you really want to know the true character of Muhammad don't read propaganda but read true history. Read even what the enemies of Muahmmad said of him. Read what Ghandi said of Muhammad or even Thomas Jefferson said of Muhammad. READ! It's fundamental. Thanks for the respect and the same respect to you.

Dear Life Student, I am not trying to be sarcastic or mean thats just not my nature but I honestly and sincerely feel you have read the WRONG and perverted materials about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Read more, from various sources written by Muslims and non-Muslims alike, then ask us again.

Peace.

Have you read the Quran??? Dont believe the Fake surahs people post. everytime I read one Igo look up the passage it refers to, and they are always inacurrate.

So the question is not "how can so many people follow such a man? "

the question is "how can you still believe all the lies you hear about the man, when so many people follow him?"

Numbers dont lie buddy.

How convenient is your question. There are no depth, just stupid and hollow. Have you ever thought of really understanding Islam or just plainly interprete with what your read with what you think. How knowledgeable are you, if I may asked. By aswering this question is already wasting my precious time. But well thanks for the 2 points anyway.

I believe all roads lead to Rome. Various religions should co-exist and respect the differences and even learn from one another. btw I am a Christian in China.

the real Quran, hadith (words and deeds of Muhammad s.a.w) and sirah (life history) about this man is very much different from what you heard from other islam-haters and the internet (read: internet)...

so i know what kind of man Muhammad was. and i'll follow him and his religion without question, willingly, with all of my heart...till the end of the world amiin...

I respect Prophet Muhammad(PBUH*). I don't find anything wrong with him marrying Aisha at a young age. If Muhammad or any of the other prophets were around today I would trust any of them with my life.
