what are the ways of highlighting of keyword(s) in PDF or HTML (e.g. using javascript, 3rd party software plug-in, coldfusion, etc)

it's done all the time in html! many websites notice that you accessed it from a search engine, they normally use perl or php to change the text from

you can do the same thing in javascript! In fact I just completed a children's book program that looks for keywords and highlights them and makes them clickable links for images and sounds... It's not yet published on the net but I could show you the working version!

If the creator of the pdf allows markup or commenting, all you need is the newest reader software and you can highlight the words in the pdf itself. You can't remove or copy them though without actually having Acrobat Professional.

pdf will highlight it automatically if you search it and use adobe reader.

IE and firefox will highlight if you search in the page with CTRL+F
