No it won't cause problems as long as you switch now. There is a computer in the car that prevents major problems if you use lower octane gas. If your engine has problems with the gas, it would be making a strange noise and not perform as well. Don't worry about it. Use premium gas from now on. But regular or mid-grade once in a while will not ruin it. You'll get better performance and mileage using the recommended fuel.

Most people say that turbochargers can use regular fuel, because boost comes in the higher rpm ranges and spools out late. Superchargers require high octane because boost comes in as soon as you floor the gas pedal. What our we to say when the guys that engineered the car recommends to use premium fuel. If you are getting lack of power or the engine is knocking, use the high octane. If the previous owner used high octane gasoline I would really recommend to keep using it. Usually once a engine and ecm or used to the higher level of octane, it is hard for it to adjust. The first thing the ecm will do is adjust the timing for poorer performance to keep from damaging the engine. I would always recommend using the premium gas for performance cars. I know gas is high, but the up keep on a performance car is not cheap either.

severe-octane gas is not any stronger that customary gas. it is important benefit over customary gas is that it rather is a sprint harder to ignite (it is what the octane score measures). it rather is often required in vehicles whose engines use severe compression (those tend to be contemporary in severe overall performance vehicles). making use of customary gas in those vehicles can effect in predetonation (talked approximately as 'ping' or 'knock'), which could effect in engine injury. this suggests that making use of severe-try won't help your mileage any, besides the fact that some vehicles, like the Chrysler 300M, can income from the better octane to regulate the engine's ECM to make somewhat greater skill, yet this often decreases mileage as antagonistic to assisting it. whether there have been a mileage benefit to making use of top rate gas, it would be very fair and the ease could be offset by making use of the better purchase value. in the journey that your motor vehicle can use customary, do so.

YES, YOU SHOULD USE THE HIGHEST OCTANE AVAILABLE. IF A MANUFACTURE RECOMMENDS REGULAR AND YOU USE PREMIUM, YOUR WASTING MONEY. BUT IF THEY RECOMMEND PREMIUM, IT'S FOR A REASON. LOOK ON THE DOOR JAM OF THE DRIVERS DOOR AND YOU'LL FIND WHAT GRADE OF GAS YOU SHOULD USE AND YOUR TIRE PRESSURE.
I HAVE AN '01 BEETLE GLX (1.8L TURBO), USE PREMIUM AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE. IT ALWAYS STARTS ON THE FIRST TRY AND STILL BOOKS LIKE IT DID WHEN IT WAS NEW. I ONLY WISH THE REST OF THE CAR WAS AS DEPENDABLE. SQUEAKS RATTLES, HATCH THAT OPENS AND CLOSES IF IT FEELS LIKE IT...

I have a 2001 GLS 1.8T Beetle, I've been told by a certified Master VW Mechanic that you should definitely use the reccomended gas. I use mid-grade because my year vehicle says I can use that grade. But if yours says premium than use it.

The 1.8T does NOT require premium fuel. The only time you would need premium is if you chipped your car to take advantage of higher octane and make more power. If it's a stock engine, regular is fine.

None at all.
The manufacturers suggest the octane rating, but if you don't use it, it's not gonna hurt your engine.......maybe less HP, and a less smooth running engine, but trust me, with todays warrantys, they ain't gonna put themselves in a position to replace a motor if you don't use the recommended octane fuel.

I doubt if you will have any problems. Use the fuel it calls for now and enjoy your car.
Gasohol would be a high octain fuel. see if that can be sued.
