My child is having difficulty during the beginning of the week, because his mother forgets to give him his medication on the weekend. She says that she forgets and he doesn't remind her. He's 8 y/o and I don't think that that should be his responsibility.

i allso have a son who has ADHD he is allso autistic.....i know how much missing medication can screw up not just their day but yours aswell.....it keeps them level and more able to communicate...i would seriously have a chat with yr ex and explain that unless she gives him his medication as she should be then you will have to find alternitive arrangements for her to have contact...explain that yr son is on these meds for a very good reason and that not giving him his meds can amount to abuse...dont come across as aggressive allthough this will be hard i know but if you can get it thru to her how important it is he takes this medication then say...look im not after a tear up or a falling out but you got to undertsand you are doing him more harm than good by missing his meds....good luck and i hope she sees sense and starts to be more responsible

The courts are pretty much a waste of time. Its a pain in the a** to have to worry about your kids when they're at the other parents house, I know. The child needs to have his meds, and it is not his job to tell his mother that he needs them. I think you should suggest to her, that she set an alarm at what time he needs to take his pills, and when she goes to shut it off, have a note reminding her to give them to him. If she's just not that responsible, sorry bud, I dont know what to tell you. Good luck!!

If she forgets, call him. Give him a prepaid cell phone if she won't answer and try calling to remind him. If she still keeps "forgetting" then talk with his doctor. You will need the doctor's support. Trying to deal with this without the courts is best, but if she just won't help you, file and then keep working on it.

i agree that an 8 year old is not mature enough to be taking their medication their own. i would talk to her about it and tell her that either she gives the boy his medication or you will take her back to court to see that she doesn't have visitation.

sit is not his responsibility. it shouldn't be. he's to young. would she expect him to be responsible for anti-biotics? cough medicine? aspirin? i doubt it. sounds like she doesn't believe in the meds and saying she forgot is an easy out. tell her you'll go back to court with it if she doesn't start taking care of it. it is neglectful of her not to give prescribed meds, no matter what they are.
