Yes, most likely you have water retention due to your period. You can flush out the water by avoiding salt and sodas, plus drinking a lot of water during and after your period. Mydol can also help.

This unexplained phenomenon could have many possible solutions.
1) You have built more muscle than you have lost in fat. Muscle weighs 4 times more than fat and perhaps the muscle you have gained is causing weight gain
2) Sometimes periods do alter your weight. If you are really worried about it, see a doctor.
3) Perhaps you have an illness. Check back in medical records or see your doctor. Some sicknesses do make weight loss more difficult.
4) You might be doing things wrong. Exersizing too much can actually hurt your body and the same for eating wrong things or things you are mildly allergic to.

Hope it helps.

A week isn't enough time to see results from working out. At any given time our weight does fluctuate due to water retention, what we're eating, stress, any number of things. It's great that you're exercise and eating healthy, just give yourself time to see real results.

As mentioned before, muscle does weigh more than fat so you'll see that too. However, I seriously doubt you've gained muscle in just a week. I suggest kicking the scale and going by things such as how your clothes fit, or better yet, getting your bodyfat measured correctly by a fitness professional or a doctor (most gyms have someone who will measure you).

Give it time, a week is nothing in the world of exercising!

Plus I would ditch the scales and get a tape measure, measurements are going to be much more important. Your scales aren't going to be able to tell the difference between fat and muscle, and muscle weighs more so it's highly likely you will gain weight when working out at first.

Depends on when your weighing yourself. What exercises your doing. Myself have been working-out for 3 weeks now. I've just cut a little over 5lbs. I do a lot of cardio, but I also do heavy lifting. So muscle mass will add more weight to my body. Rather then looking for the weight you've loss. Pull out a measuring tape and check your waist size.

Before your period starts, the hormones you produce cause you to retain water causing you to weigh more. Also, if you have been working out, remember that muscle weighs more than fat. The mose muscle you gain, the more you will weigh. What you need to think about here is not the number on the scale, but how you look & how your clothes fit. You may be gaining muscle, but you will also be looking & feeling better not to mention that your clothes will start to look & fit better!

Retaining water and bloating leading up to your period could cause you to be heavier at this time, on the scales, yeah - Also, the time of day can effect this - Weigh yourself at the same time of day and on the same sclaes each time you way to get the most accurate reading and yes, your period will effect the result.
Keep up with the good eating and regular exercise.

Water retention due to menstration is the most likely cause. Don't worry, it is definitely not fat because it is impossible to put on fat that quickly. Keep doing what you are doing and after the period is over, measure your progress with a measuring tape (instead of a bathroom scale) because you will get a more accurate assesment of you progress that way. Besides, I am willing to bet that none of your clothing sizes are listed in pounds.

Here is a link to info on measuring progress.

it would be really hard to gain 4 pounds of fat in 3 days and even harder to gain 4 pounds of muscle so i think it could be water weight
