I need both of my top wisdom teeth pulled, what can I expect?
What's the exact office procedure once I am in the chair? First I had exrays- Then they used oragel to numb my gums. Then came the shots to really numb my mouth.
After about ten to fifteen minutes they checked to make sure that the medication worked to numb everything up.
Then they ask me to open up and the Doc used something to hold my mouth open. He used a pair of pliers and just pulled them boogers out. He packed my gums with gauze after each extraction. They handed me a perscription for some great pain meds and sent me home.
What type of painkiller should I use? What ever the doctor gives you OR Take 4 ibuprophen at once. Then wait about -8 hours and take 4 more.
Will I feel any pain while my tooth is being extracted?
A little pressure and a pinching feeling.
what about pain afterwards?
All taken care of if your careful Maybe bad for the first two days.
How long does the whole procedure take?
About 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours.
What's the healing time? 2 weeks fir the most part but it will take several months to get rid of the holes it leaves.

I just had my top two wisdom teeth taken out last Thursday. Mine were fully erupted (not impacted) and I have never had bottom wisdom teeth, so the top ones had grown pretty far down.
Once I was in the chair, they numbed my gums with a topical gel. Then, I was given four shots in my gums to numb the areas around the two wisdom teeth. These hurt a little bit, but not too much. The worst part was when some of the lidocaine (numbing agent) got into my mouth. It just tastes bad.
I felt very slight pain while they were pulling one of the teeth. I didn't feel anything with the other one. I was in and out of the dentist's office within an hour. You do *not* have to have your mouth wide open the whole time. In fact, if you *did*, they wouldn't be able to get back to your wisdom teeth. My dentist did have to pull the corners of my mouth back pretty far and that was also mildly painful.
I was fully awake during the whole procedure and they did not prescribe me any pain medication at all. The dentist advised me to take 3 Motrin every 4 hours if I needed it.
I did not have ANY pain at all once I got home. I stopped taking the Motrin after 6pm on the day of the procedure. I had no swelling, no bruising, and I made only minor modifications to my diet. 9 hours after having the teeth pulled, I was eating pasta. The next day, I had a chicken fajita. I went to work the next day. I could have gone back that same day, but I always have Thursdays off.
Now, I have slight pain throughout my jaw but I think my teeth are just moving around and getting adjusted.
It's so *not* a big deal... but remember that if they're impacted, then it's a whole different story. That doesn't necessarily mean that it will be agonizing... but I think it tends to be more complicated than what I just described.

The Top ones come out very easily usually. It can only take about a minute for a tooth. If you relax, close your eyes, listen to music you like, you'll have more discomfort from the corner of your mouth from being open . If they were swollen and hurting it fells really good to get them out. It is a relative question as to how do you usually do with dental work? Follow their instructions after the extraction no spitting, no rinsing, no sucking through a straw, no head up and down activity= ie no playing basketball, or vacuuming. Do your pain pills on time, don't wait to hurt. After the first day see how you are. Tender but not dying is the usually. If they are a little sore then feel better, and all of a sudden they really hurt- callthe dentists. You may lost the blood clot and he can make it better in 5 seconds with a special paste. You have to behave for three days, soften your diet, brush with just water, do not pick at the area, do not put in mouth wash. By a spray Bianca and use that. after three days you can rinse gently with warm salt water and the tissue will heal faster. A lot of it is in your head- think postive. A lot of people have no trouble- you just don't hear about it because there is nothing to say. put on carmex before you go.

discomfort, and possibly facial swelling and discolouration.
You are placed in the chair. In some offices, you can get nitrous oxide for anesthesia, in others they will use a combination of local and IV medications You will feel discomfort, if you are not fully anesthetised. The worst part of the whole thing is that you have to either keep your mouth WIDE open, or it will be blocked open with some sort of device between the teeth. The whole process will take between twenty minutes and two hours. The healing will be pretty much complete in ten days. When I had mine removed, it was actually not too bad... a lot of discomfort at the time (I was sedated, not put to sleep) After the surgery, I had an headache for about twentyfour hours. It was not as bad as some. I did not eat any solid food for three days. I used this as an excuse to try all the soups that I never had eaten before. Bad idea. Now when I see them, I think about having teeth pulled... After the healing was over, I concluded the discomfort was worth it. The impacted teeth were a lot worse than the cure.

Don't listen to these people, it's not that bad. Plus, you will be given a prescription for pain pills. The worst part is trying to figure out how to eat without getting food caught in the tooth sockets.
When I had mine, I chose to be completely knocked out and it worked for me. When I woke up I was out of it of course but didn't feel any pain until the next day. But that's what the pills are for! You won't feel pain while the teeth are being extracted. I think my procedure took less than an hour, total healing time is several weeks.
Good luck!

When the procedure is done you will feel only the pull of your jaw bone and feel no pain from your gums or from the removed teeth. Pain is felt an hour or two later. You probably will feel tired and not want to do anything. After about 24 hours the pain and fatigue subsides.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled, i was asked to be put to sleep and thank god I was, my teeth were compacted. He gave me some pain killers, i cannot remember what it was. I was fine by the next day, I ate a whopper the next day, so it all depends on how you are at healing. but it really isn't too bad.
If you decided to be awake for the procedure, just tell them you are hard to numb, that way they will numb you really well, and you will only feel pressure not pain.

They'll put an iv in your arm and give you anesthesia. You won't remember a thing. Well, you shouldn't. You won't feel anything during the procedure. I don't remember how long it lasts, b/c I was so doped up. You'll probably get Percocet after it's done. They should keep you out of it for a couple days. You'll be on a liquid diet. If the drugs work, you shouldn't feel too much pain. I keep saying "you shouldn't" b/c people have different reactions to drugs. After a few days, you should be fine to go out and such. You'll have chubby cheeks for about a week.

If they're impacted, it's worse. I chose not to use pain killers or antibiotics and my healing was excellent. Instead of pain killers, I decided to let it ride out - and I did enjoy lots of ice shavings :)
I had a reaction due to the local anesthesia they used where my gums welped up. I also bled a fair amount after the surgery. Due to that, I did get dizzy and nauseous for the first day.
My situation was bad ... I think my oral surgeon was too quick or something. However, I had lots of fun staying indoor and playing "Hot Shots Golf 3" while I healed! And my mom sent me already cooked food, it was fantastic.

It's funny you asked. I didn't, then when I was sitting in the chair I started to think about it....yep! I was right, they numb you up real good and start pulling. Honestly I though he was going to break my jaw, good thing I was numb, then I thought I'd be hurting for a week, but I never even fill the RX for the pain killers, just Tylenol..It really wasn't that bad.
