he is really nice, he used to like me, he wanted to sit beside me in class rather than his best friend, he always talks to me and he always seems to be around. i only like him as a friend though. does he like me?

Does he try to hold your hand? Did he all of a sudden become interested in things that interest you? __ Then yes.
If he has always had to same interests and he talks the same way to every one else, it's friendship. Everyone needs more than one friend.

He might or he might not. Wait to see if he tries to make a move. If and when he does, calmly explain that you just don't feel the same way. Tell him you like to be around him and that you like to hang out with him as friends, but only as friends. It might be hard to say it but remember it needs to be said, the last thing you want to do is lead him on.
