What weight should I be at? I am 5' 9", and currently at 170 lbs, mostly on abs and thighs. I would like to know what weight I should be at? What kind of diet and exercise I should do?
I know I am not "fat", persay, but I would like to lose the little extra weight I have, hopefully before Summer? Any specific exercises?
I have a large frame-- strong shoulders, hips, all of that.
By the way--I'm 14. Is that still healthy?

You would ideally be between 135 and 170 lbs. As you can see, you're on the upper limit of ideal, and there's nothing wrong with that (btw, I am too and I consider myself very healthy!)

Take into consideration that muscle weighs more than fat, so if you have a large composition of muscle, then you're going to have to sway the digits to the right.

What you should focus most on is fat composition. Keep your fat composition between 10 - 20% if you're male and 15-25% if you're female. The average American is somewhere between 5-8% above the limits.

Your weight sounds normal for your height and the fact that you have a large frame. Just eat a diet with lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean protein sources, with some good fats like flax oil or olives. To tone your thighs and hips, you could do lunges, squats, and leg lifts, as well as cardio exercises like running or cycling. Womenshealthmag.com has lots of good exercise ideas. I have a large frame too, weighing 160 on a 5-6 height and wear a size 10 and am in great shape. Sounds like you are too.

I would start by walking 1 to 2 miles several times a week. that will tone your legs and thigh areas, then work up to doing some more physical exercises. While you are probably not fat,you are might be called out of shape.You will probably lose 10-20 lbs. by summer if you walk regularly.if you find it getting easy to do 2 miles try 3-4 if you can make the time to do it.

Determining desirable body weight:

A simple way to determine desirable body weight is as follows:

* Women: 100 pounds of body weight for the first 5 feet of height, 5 pounds for each additional inch.
* Men: 106 pounds of body weight for the first 5 feet of height, 6 pounds for each additional inch.
* Add 10% for a large frame size, and subtract 10% for a small frame size.

Determining frame size:
To determine the body frame size, measure the wrist with a tape measure and use the following chart to determine whether the person is small, medium, or large boned.

Women:

* height under 5'2"
o small = wrist size less than 5.5"
o medium = wrist size 5.5" to 5.75"
o large = wrist size over 5.75"
* height 5'2" to 5' 5"
o small = wrist size less than 6"
o medium = wrist size 6" to 6.25"
o large = wrist size over 6.25"
* height over 5' 5"
o small = wrist size less than 6.25"
o medium = wrist size 6.25" to 6.5"
o large = wrist size over 6.5"

Men:

* height over 5' 5"
o small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5"
o medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"
o large = wrist size over 7.5"
