The key word is the "civil"! A classical "civil" engineer will work on, or manage, or direct engineering construction projects that involve the "public domain"! Such as: Plan, design and construct bridges; likewise roads and highways and sidewalks; ditto for water drainage systems; flood control systems (drainage and/or dams, etc.); plan, design and construct water distribution systems (with or without water tanks); Water treatment systems (potable water or sewage); etc.! Any of the foregoing would become specialties if you expected to be REAL GOOD at any of them. Civil Engineers build things including, sometimes, buildings! Like ANYthing else. Lots of fun--lots of headaches--never enough time or enough people or enough money to do the "perfect" job, but they get the job done and done WELL with what they have to work with. Usually, after you prove yourself, you can spend most of your time working outdoors at the sites making the plans happen or you can work indoors developing the designs and plans to be executed outdoors! If you are so disposed-- it would be a very satisfying career.
