when i was in orlando, fl there were trees planted that has smooth bark, kind of light grey-brown. they also had thick thorns growing on the trunk, they were round and looked like ice cream cones sticking out of the bark. i can't remember the leaves but the 20 foot trees were covered with dark pink flowers that resembled star-gazer lilies.

they were gorgous, but i can't remember what they are called or any info you all could tell me would be great!!

thanks

From your fairly good description it seems that the scientific or the botanical name of the tree is--

Bombax malabaricum, it is also called Salmalia malabarica or Ceiba pentandra. By whatever name you call it is the same.

In plain English it is called ' The Silk Cotton Tree' . The name is apt as the floss obtained from the fruit is very smooth like silk fabric and used as a stuffing material for cushions and beds.

I am giving some links below ( all of them are of the same tree in various angles ) See them and confirm.

Your statement about the flowers and the thorns ( In reality or botanically they are called 'Prickles') has helped me.

Thank you.

you're able to desire to plant the acorn and then wait extremely a on a similar time as earlier it starts off to slowly substitute right into a tree. I certainly have grown quite a number of o.ok.timber from acorns. As for you , you will no longer substitute into any sort of tree.

Thorns make me think of a honeylocust. They're usually a bit taller though. Maybe it was a very young one.
