for the air force dep, can you retake the asvab and choose a different military job while in DEP before you ship off to basic?

Thanks Kristopher, so you're saying I can definately change my ASFPC while in DEP and that the job I choose upon signing up for the DEP doesn't have to be the final job if I qualify and want to choose a different job before basic.

Also Kristopher, are you saying there is no chance that if I choose "open general option" when signing up to the DEP and then later decide to change it, there is no chance of me being stuck with the "open general option?"

here's the thing.. if you retake the ASVAB(assuming you even can, you can't take it as many times as you like) and you get a lower score, you are stuck with the lower score, which may eliminate even more jobs.

Generally speaking, you can TRY and choose a different job while still in DEP, but you may lose any bonus that you originally got, you may lose your ship date or they may just decide.. they don't really need you all that badly and release you altogether.

That is a question you should ask your local recruiter. If you are still in DEP, you can change your AFSPC before you even enter basic. You should enter the AF under the "open general option" until you can decide what you would like to do.

My understanding is that the DEP is like signing a "letter of intent"... You aren't really enlisted until you've signed on the dotted line and been sworn in at MEPS. Until then, the recruiter should be willing to help you pick the MOS you most want, and help you fight for it. He has a vested interest in making sure you're good-to-go with your enlistment choices.
