Previously, any history of asthma was disqualifying, regardless of age. While medical waivers were sometimes possible, waiver approval usually required scheduling and passing a pulmonary function test. Under the new policy, Asthma is only disqualifying if it occurs after the applicant’s 13th birthday.
Medical record screening may still be required, depending on the applicant’s medical history. However, in many cases, a signed statement, attached to the medical pre-screening form, stating that the applicant did not have any type of asthma (including exercise induced, or allergic asthma) or treatment for asthma after their 13th birthday will be sufficient.
Applicants who’ve experienced asthma or reactive airway disease after age 13 will require all medical documentation. Waivers may still be considered, depending on the applicant’s medical history and – possibly results from a pulmonary function test.

In the book version of Blackhawk Down there was a ranger involved in the fight who had asthma and in fact carried an inhaler. He had omitted the fact when he enlisted, tossed the inhaler during basic. After an attack he was almost discharged but was granted an exception by the Army.

No. I have asthma and once the military called me when I turned 18 (like they call everybody), and I told them I wasn't interested, but they still asked me questions. One was if I had asthma. When I told them I did, they said that I couldn't be in the military.

Unfortunately not. And DO NOT lie about it. If you think you have it and want to give it a try, that's one thing. If you are diagnosed with athsma and lie by saying you don't have it...just realize they can jail you for fraudulent enlistment. If athsma is developed during service, they may or may not dishcharge you medically depending on the severity, cause and more than anything, the medical review board.

Asthma is a disqualifying condition for ALL branches. You can't exactly have your medication on you in basic training. No waivers are given for this medical condition
Sorry!

well you do a lot of running, hiking and exercising in basic training. There's also mental stress. Talk to your Dr. and local recruiter.
Edit: I forgot about dust inhalation, marching, tear gas, being out in all kinds of weather, sleep deprivation, exhaustion and extreme fatigue.

They will take you, as long as you SAY you don't have asthma.
I had asthma, I would sometimes have to use an albuterol inhaler after I exercised. My recruiter told me that if I mention asthma at MEPS then I would be rejected. Since then I was able to overcome it completely, and I never needed an inhaler.
If you work hard, control your breathing and strengthen your heart and lungs, you can overcome it too.

There is a waiver, I think you have to take a pulmonary function test. Ask a recruiter about it.
If you can run 2-5 miles you should be able to get it. It might take awhile to get the test set up, however.
