ok, I cracked my tooth tonight.. it's my far back tooth on the top right side. HURTS sooooooo bad. It's not cracked all the way through, (i did it on a bit o honey.. god they are so good!!) anyway, There's no roots or nerves hanging out, and like i said it's not cracked fully through. I HATE dentists... everyone of them has been mean and caused me a lot of pain and not seemed to have a care in the world about it. I wanna know from any of you that have cracked a tooth before if it was extracted or if it was able to have a cap put on it??

The need for a crown or extraction will be dictated by the severity and extent of the crack or fracture. (FYI many times a crown is possible; however, not without a root canal. Again, depends on the extent of the fracture.)

Yes I've had a cracked tooth before. In fact within the last few months. I have this thing for chewing on ice cubes (but no more!). I cracked that tooth all the way from the top to the bottom. Went to my dentist and he x-rayed it and then sent me to an oral surgeon. I chose to have the back tooth pulled because not only was I NOT going to go through a root canal (had one before, never again) but I was not going to pay $950 to get the root canal done. That doesn't even count the crown that has to be put on afterwards. So, I had it pulled. Best thing I ever did. No problem chewing or anything. Just my 2 cents.

yes i have crcked a tooth, but had root canals on one and the dentist just wants to put crowns on the other one.

And by the way, I saw your question about a acoustic neuroma. I think you should keep going to doctors until you find one that will order a mri for you. It can't hurt. I have an acoustic neuroma, that I found out after I was diagnosed that I probably had had it for 10 years. I had gamma knife surgery, which is nothing but 100's of beams of radiaion at the tumor. It has not shrunk yet after 2 and half years, but at least it as not grown anymore. I still have dizziness, headaches, and balance problems. But, get it checked by a MRI, it really can't hurt you to be sure. Maybe by now you already have. If so thats great!

Cap or root canal it.Some pain may be relieved if all bit-o-honey is cleaned from the area of the tooth.Sensodine tooth paste could keep the pain down a little.
