depending on your skin type you have to buy the lotion accordingly. Oily skin requires lotion for oily skin etc. usually people like a light lotion (not too creamy or thick). To rid acne, try drinking a lot more water and avoid high sugar and high fat foods, cuz they come out through your pores. Also a home remedy that I hear works is putting toothpaste on your pimples overnight. Also exfoliate if you dont have overly dry skin, you dont even need to buy an exfoliant, try some sugar with a LITTLE water, and massage on your face. To name some lotions, I know some people love to put Nivea products, vaseline, its a trial and error thing to find out what works for you.

Benzoyl Peroxide! Start with a 5% lotion applied after washing your face in the morning and again at night. If 5% doesn't work after a few days then try 10%. It works great and was recommended by my dermatologist.

the person that mentioned the peroxide was right on the money...it's cheap and easy!
you can also try holding a warm cloth on your face to open your pores and then use an astringent (cheap...at walmart). try not to touch your face a lot (i have a horrible habit of leaning on my hand) and wash your pillowcase often. if you exercise, wash your face right after to avoid your pores getting clogged.
drink a lot of water.

My sister tried proactive, but it didn't work for her. She went to the dr. for a physical and the dr. told her to wash her face with oxyclean wash and then get oxyclean lotion. She's been doing it for only a few days and her face looks tremendously better...much better than it ever did with proactive.
