Over 50% of people suffer from symptoms of TMD (temporal mandubular joint disorder). I have this too. Symptoms can include minimal opening range of the mouth, soreness in the jaw when chewing, clicking/locking of jaw, tightness, and some others. It can be due to stress, orthodontics, gum chewing, injury, and several other causes. Since you don't suffer from any pain, your TMD is not severe or anything you have to worry about in the near future. But if it gets worse or painful you should ask your dentist about it. Surgery or an injection might be needed as well for some cases. Good luck with everything and stop chewing hard.

If it really bothers you go to the dentist. They can make a mouthgard so you can realign the muscles in your jaw when you sleep at night. You can also get physical therapy. I have TMJ which also makes my jaw sore, but those things helped reduce the popping.

Sounds like it could be TMJ-PDS -temporomandibular joint-pain dysfunction syndrome. You could see your doctor, but chances are he will tell you to see your dentist.
