Religion is a business. That is about the messengers, not the message, about the affairs of men, not the affairs of God. That which we call God, from an earthly point of view, is a desire to touch something higher and finer than our own imperfect selves, and save us from our worst enemy, ourselves.

(wonder if a soul can be bought or sold, if Gods and Goddesses then swap them around like trading cards?)

Your question is a little vague and esoteric. I'll answer as appropriately as I can.

Religion is a business; it's the business of selling people pleasant feelings.

God is a concept. All concepts are limited forms, and are therefore half-truths and partial lies. If there were a God, any idea of him would be inherently blasphemous, as it would be less than the truth of Him/Her/It.

The soul is another version of self, which is also a lie. Self is an illusion created by memory, the concept of the future, and the desire to not feel afraid. The soul is a further expression of the desire to not feel afraid, as it's an idealized version of self that never dies, never gets sick, and lives forever. To believe in a soul is to lose it.

It makes me sad to say it, but you do have a point. God has been a business since before Jesus lost his temper and went all wrathful on the moneychangers. (A little story that always makes me laugh when I see televangelists...)

For some, God is still important, and the soul is still everything, but even then it's hard to walk the line without falling over into fanatic territory. But then, this is all a big game in the end, so might as well try to have fun with it.

I dont know if God is just a business, obviously there are a few real believers out there. But there are certainly some very large business elements to it,and it is one of the most successful businesses in history. I find it especially interesting that what can be accurately be described as one of the most successful business interests in the history of mankind is also completely free of any tax burden in the US, that's the only thing that bothers me about it. PT Barnum fleeced the suckers for a living too,but at least he paid his taxes.

years ago i went into a needy persons store front where a young married couple fed and clothed poor people. I asked him if he was concerned about people with money taking advantage and he said he didnt worry about that(he knew some did) as that was between them and God. He just wanted to do what he was called to do. Yes; organized religion is a business in a lot of ways, but there are truly sincere people in many cases.

Not to mention the incessant money-raising by rich TV evangelists, such as Paul & Jan Crouch, and Benny Hinn -- video clip attached.

For some, yes. The two Jims (Baker and Swaggart) definitely became drunk with power. Lotsa typing to prove your point Mr. Lavey.

God is NOT a business! It is life. He made you and your soul. He even knows how some of you will be answering this question. I just hope some of you will believe and trust in him before you find out that it is too late. GOD IS REAL!!!!!!!!!!
