Okay, look. You have got the whole "diet" thing wrong. You see, in order to have affective weight loss AND KEEP IT OFF is to have a lifestyle change and not just a temporary diet. Eat small, healthy meals 6 times a day. You will be satisfied and your body will be much more pleased with this than starving yourself.
As for the exersize thing, do 30 or 20 minutes 3 days a week and weight training 3 days a week. Switch off days, though.
This is the way for success. And remember, everything in moderation.

put a little peanut butter on that plain bread, or have french toast out of it, (use the zero calorie "I can't believe it's not Butter" spray and diet syrup) get a little extra protein in there, and have a 6 ounce glass of unsweetened juice with it.
lunch is fine, but you could add an ounce of shredded cheese or 3 ounces of lean chicken to it
dinner, if they're having something like hamburger helper or fried potatoes, then eat very small portions.
the snack is fine. (dump the cereal, it can lead to wanting more carbs)
the exercise is fine.
Basically you can tweak this routine with just a little more protein, and keep the fatty stuff to a minimum. It sounds like you're off to a great start and will lose weight.

your diet is absolutely horrible...it is lacking in:
protein
high fiber carbs
vegetables
fats
* any weight lost on that diet will be lean muscle mass not body fat
