I don't use it every day, so I generally go pay-per-ride. NOTE: for every $10 you pay on a pay-per-ride, you get an extra fare free. Essentially, the fare then becomes about $1.67. So, if you pay $10, you get a $12 card. Pay $20, get a $24 card, and so forth.

If I used the bus going to and from work and school every day, I'd probably get an unlimited card, maybe the monthly.

If I knew for sure that I'd be using it twice a day all week, I'd get the 7-day.

I don't use public transportation every day, so I pay per ride - I buy a $20 MetroCard which gives me 12 rides - I get two free rides with each card. Buying an unlimited card is not a good deal for me.

i dont get unlimited metrocards- it isnt worth it for me, so i buy a $40 one with 4 free rides. but if you swipe more than 3 or 4 times each day, you should buy an unlimited.

I think the 7 day unlimited is the most popular, but kids and seniors use a monthly pass, which is popular also.
