It's a wonder what people would believe from only what they've read without even seeing or experiencing it first hand.
I'd say, why don't you come and visit Malaysia first before making any decision to stay or not. Visitors are very welcomed in Malaysia, especially this year because 2007 is the Visit Malaysia Year.
I've met a few convert to Islam who came to live in Malaysia and they admitted to receiving a lot of support from the government agencies and the muslim community.
If you decide to move to live in Malaysia, I would advice you to register with 'PERKIM'. It is an organisation that help and support new converts to Islam.

Salam Alikom Islam is the official religion of Malaysia so I would imagine it would be very easy to move there and adapt.

is the official religion of Malaysia. According to 2006 U.S. State Department figures, approximately 60.4 percent of the population practiced Islam; 19.2 percent Buddhism; 9.1 percent Christianity; 6.3 percent Hinduism; and 3 percent Confucianism, Taoism, and other traditional Chinese religions [3]. The remainder was accounted for by other faiths, including animism, Sikhism, and Baha'i. [4]. As required by Malaysian law and defined in the Constitution, a Malay would surrender his ethnic status if he were not Muslim. However the reverse is not legally true; one does not legally become a Bumiputra by converting to Islam. Malaysian Muslims are primarily Malays although there are substantial numbers of Indian and Pakistani Muslims and increasing numbers of ethnic Chinese converts.[citation needed]

A number of young Muslims, especially those raised in a more secular or westernized settings are practicing Muslims. They observe the practice of a holy month (Ramadan), when fasting during daylight hours is mandatory, and abstain from pork, they pray five times a day and visit mosques frequently.

At the same time, increasing numbers of Malays are taking the religion more seriously, with the increasing popularity of Islamic financing and the increasing number of girls choosing to wear the tudung or headscarf as evidences.

If you are a muslim and you go to malaysia, what you're doing is basically asking "can I put my dog in a dog community?"

Answer is YES! Is it safe?

Well, to the dogs, its no big deal. But to us humans, I'd tell you to stay away from muslims.

almost impossible, even if you marry a Malay you will find it a uphill battle. Coming to visit is very simple for anyone, but residing here and taking employment is next to impossible, many areas have high unemployment, and many skilled workers doing menial jobs, combined with thousands of illegal Philippines and Indonesians sneaking in to work.
