See, me and my fiancée have been together for more than 6 years now. And we finally decided to go down to marriage. Now we're planning a Church wedding which will be on October. Lately I've been thinking, what if we get marry thru an Attorney or Judge first, then continue with the church wedding?

The reason I'm asking is because, I am working in a minesite and I only get to go home after 42 days, which I am due in 7days. When I get home, I plan to run all our papers for the preparation of the wedding on October. Recently, I learned that the Local City Registrar will only issue a Marriage License that is good for 100 days. October is still more than a hundred days from next week. Can anyone please help? I need advice.

Will it be okay to marry in court by a judge or attorney, and get married in church later? Or is it okay if I moved the church wedding to an earlier date so that the Marriage License won't expire?

Thank you fellow Filipinos and all others who helped.

I'm allowed 14 days rest from work, which will start next week, then back to work for another 42 days.

Yes, the Mining Company is in the Philippines, but is quite far from where we (me and my fiancée) lives.

hi im a filipina, im getting married in canada though. my sister had a civil wedding last 2005, she got their marriage licence from our registry 30 days before their wedding. jus a question - why don't get your fiance handle the papers while you're working, and when you're off, then you can help her with the rest of the stuff. and if your registry will only issue the licence which is good for 100 days, why don't you get the licence in august or september? why are you so worried about getting the licence now when you can get it on august or september? are there any reasons why you cant get the licence on august or september? don't rush into things - preparing for a wedding is not that easy. me and my fiance are also getting married this october. i was told by our parish priest that we can apply for our marriage licence on september - no rush. there are a lot of other requirements for church weddings. why don't you handle the most important things first, like booking the church, the reception, photographer, videographer. you gotta make sure that the church and the reception hall are both available on the day that you're getting married. remember, its her wedding too, so both of you should be involved in planning your wedding.

here's what my fiance and i did.
- we booked the church and the reception hall. (for the church, yeah i know, there are lots of other requirements - baptismal certificate, marriage preparation course, marriage licence etc. - we're gonna handle these stuff by april and the marriage licence on september. For the reception hall, we still have to see the manager for the food, # of guests, and other fees but the hall is already booked).
- we booked the photographer.
- i already ordered my gown

these are the stuff that we have for now. isn't it weird? there are a lot of things to do and yet, these are all we have done? lol. we're just doing it slowly and step by step, i think. don't worry too much okei? you still have 7months to go. do whatever you can do for now, the marriage licence can wait. but if you are really worried about the marriage licence part, go and check with your parish church or priest and ask for advice, i know its different here so if you really wanna make sure, check with the church and registry. goodluck! im so excited for your wedding and our wedding, lol. when is you wedding by the way? October ___ ?

Marry in the Church.
Church wedding especially Catholic Wedding is recognized by the Philippine Government and all other nation. If you are married in the Church you are recognized in other countries. If you are only married to the judge or mayor, you are only recognized by the philippine laws and not to other country.

If you will mary in the court and then to the church, you will prepare twice, you will spend double. Even if it is a simple wedding, surely you will spend, take note of the Filipino culture.

If you will take the church wedding, ask your parish priest (or let your fiancee coordinate with the parish priest to book the weeding in advance, although you are not around. Your presence ussually is required in two reasons; during the seminars (the longest i know is three saturdays and sundays) and canonical interview (one day).

Papers required (Catholic Wedding)
1. birth certificate
2. baptismal certificate with the annotation in the purpose area of "for marriage purpose"
3. confirmation certificate
4. marriage banns ( to be given by the church of thewedding place if you came from other place or parish)
5. marriage license ( this one could follow to satisfy the 100 days effectivity. You could get it when you arrived before the wedding day as long as 14 working days before the marriage date)

additional requirement for widow/widower
1. marriage certificate of the previous marriage
2. death certificate of the spouse

hi there!

there's no problem in going thru the civil rites before having a church wedding. a lot of people do that nowadays, especially those who have the same situation as yours. The marriage license you will use during the the civil rites is the same license you will use for your church rites. it would be ridiculous for church people to ask for license if you're married already in civil rites. they will just have to ask for your marriage certificate.

relax and enjoy the prep of this joyous event, i pray that you're patient enough ...

congratulations kabayan!
