Since you all dodged the true meaning of my question here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070318185012AAzKaOi&r=w
I'll start again. I wrote "I thought god was "unchanging" that's one of the reasons why he is different from us mortals. He is unchanging because he is always right and thus will never break his promises to us. But then I ask why the change of the old testament to the new? God advocated slavery, sexism and persecution of homosexuals. If he is unchanging then he hasn't changed in his views of these specific topics."
Clearly he did change his ways, another example was after the flood of Noah he created a rainbow. This was symbol that he never would do such an act again. But why? Did he feel remorse?
God did indeed change and in doing so means he isn't always right.

So you're saying "Mel" that he still advocates slavery, sexism and persecution of homosexuals?

"Oldguy63", thank you that's all I wanted was a direct answer.
But I still have to inquire about slavery, sexism and persecution of homosexuals. If he really thinks the way he does of the old testament he isn't such a good guy in my book.

What you are talking about doctrinally is a doctrine called dispensationalism. In short it means that God has dealt with mankind in a number of different ways, seven to be exact, throughout human history. These changes that he made from one dispensation to another were planned in eternity past and so in reality he never changed his mind at all but only in your perception of it. God dealt with Adam differently than he did with Noah or with Moses or with the Christian church, but it was all part of his plan. Just look at your example, there has never been another world wide flood, but God does promise to destroy the world one more time but this time it will be with fire.

I never knew Pirates were so inquisitive.
Couple of points...
'Remorse' may not be the right word for you to use. God WAS sorry he created man when seeing the evil they performed as an early society (like today maybe just without the Internet?). But that doesn't mean the fault was God's. Don't assume that. The 'remorse' was not regret for killing people.
Christ says both,"I change not." and "I am the same yesterday and today." So it would lead me to believe that those 'things' he abhorred in the OT he abhors today - homos included.
It was not 'persecution' like we see today, but rather, stop sinning or die. But you ask is that fair? How can men today in the liberal world reconcile God advocating killing and at the same time, love. Too many men think they are 'holier' that God by claiming to be more forgiving, more accepting, kinder, etc. That's the fallacy we put on ourselves - that we know better. We love to say that we are not discriminatory and therefore God must love every man as we do. Crap! 'Love the man but hate the sin' has become, 'love the man is to accept the sin' - or better yet, lets celebrate it - yuk! Who's got the greater good for man? If we do, then have a look outside and think back to why a flood HAD to be sent. Death is the only peaceful solution to heal the world's phenominal sickness (but thankfully that is not the end of the story).

Have you read Mat 19:8? Same applies. These people came out of slavery and bondage and learned the ways of the Egyptians. They were messed up. You first must learn the reason the law was given. God has changed His mind but He doesn't change His ways. When He says something, it happens. Most of the time it happens sooner and in some cases, later. Prayer has always moved God. Just because nothing happens until prayer occurs doesn't mean God changed his mind. It means He responds favorably to request.
Where do you get remorse from the rainbow? No, God didn't have to do it again. He shortened life spans and that in itself fixed a lot of gross sin problems. Remember the statement, As in the days of Noah? Whats does that refer to? He also pushed punishment over to mans domain. But rest assured, in the end, God will judge all...just as He said. Can we move God to change? Yes. Does God change his laws? No!

God's love is unchanging for all of us. That is where he is not mortal. The old testament is before the birth of Christ on earth. The death of Jesus to save our sins in the new testament changed alot of things for us. After the flood of Noah, God made a promise with the symbol of the rainbow not to do that act again. He hasn't changed there either. No one has all the reasons for everything God does. There are questions I have as a Christian I can't get answers for until I die and see Him face to face. But I still believe in his never ending love and know that one day, I will have all my questions answered.

Between the Old and New Testament, the nature of the relationship between God and man changed (i.e. the Pentateuch was fulfilled and lost much of its significance--Christ was the final sacrifice. People were able to get closer to God since they were forgiven of their sins). When God created the rainbow, he made a covenant with Noah and the rest of the world, so the relationship changed a little. Going through this, not once do I ever hear "God changed." Where do you get that God changed in this?

Main Entry: un·chang·ing
Pronunciation: -'chAn-ji[ng]
Function: adjective
: CONSTANT, INVARIABLE
ok here is the definition in English.
See the problem and I have said this before is the English language.
If the Bible said CONSTANT would you be asking this question?
If I say I love my mother, children, my pet, my brand new car, etc. English uses the word love. Is this all in the same context? Do I not love all those things? But you would agree there is a difference between my love for my children and my love for the car? Well I hope anyway . . . . .lol!
It is hard to argue when the true understanding is lost in translation. The OT fortold the NT. God advocating anything is again . .. . . .. in what context and what English translation?
Really we should be discussing Gods love for us.
God Bless

"God ought to the two be his very own adequate reason, or there ought to have been another reason outdoors of God to blame for bobbing up God" those are no longer the only 2 options, and the former one leads you into all varieties of fallacies. God is uncaused; he's what has existed from all eternity, till now/previous the universe and the organic realm. ------------------------ Sorry, I did miss it. In answer to that, this is because of the fact all of us be attentive to that matter and potential got here into life on the huge Bang. this is the consensus between cosmologists, and explicitly suggested with the help of Simon Singh in his e book on the huge Bang. additionally, we bump into philosophical problems on the subject of action/circulation of eternal matter that bypass each and every of the lengthy in the past to Aristotle. ultimately, i might factor out that matter might nicely be eternal without this proving that God hence isn't.

God gives a life and He can take it away.
He only promised that He will not flood the the world andymore. I think it is next time by fire. : )
His Word is the same now and forever. Past, present and future. :)

I'm thinking God is changing because his words are chosen by men.
God didn't pop down to eartth and write the bible..men did.
So they can change anything they want to fit there power hungry ways.
Again and again, the bible is a really great novel, not much more....and it is terribly outdated.Good luck in your search:)

Hello, friend. God is unchanging, and he does not go back on his promises. The reason we have the old and new testament is not a change it is a fullfillment. The real question I think you have is why did God have to send Jesus "his word made flesh." When God created Adam and Eve. He created us to live forever. Satan tempted Eve and she then gave Adam of the fruit of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. This was the downfall of Man. Here we see that Satan was given dominion on earth and dominion over man. When they ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge God banished them from the garden forbidding their return so that they would not be able to eat of the tree of life. You see, If they would have ate of the tree of life, after they had ate of the tree of knowledge God would not had been able to get rid of sin in this world. Before they ate any fruit there was no need for them to eat of the tree of life because they were created to live forever. But upon the sin of eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they beacame as God knowing the difference. So man was cursed to live of the sweat of his brow and woman given pain during childbirth and mankind given the task of returning to the dust after life as a penalty for sin. For the wages of Sin is Death. Now to pay for the penalty of sin before Jesus, man was required to take an animal to a priest to be slain and the blood offered up as a sacrifice to pay the price. But man grew very evil because satan was able to manifest all wickedness on earth. God only found Noah to be righteous and therfore spared Noah and his children the great flood which cleansed the world of wickedness. And through Noah the world was repopulated. Now throughout the old testament Jesus was prophesied to come and rid the world of sin forever. Forever damning satan and the third of the angels that fell with him, along with mankind who would not obey the Law of moses before Jesus, and now since Jesus has been sent: mankind who will not accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. You see Jesus is God, the word made flesh, the second person in the Trinity. For God so loved this world that he gave his only begotten son , so that whosoever believeth in him, "JESUS", shall not perish but have everlasting life. AMEN. You see slaying animals was a offering for sin, but it did not rid the world of sin. Jesus did that on the cross. And he did it for You. All you have to do is Seek truth for yourself. Dont go around posting questions with statements that can lead other people astray, instead seek the truth for yourself, research it, get after all the knowledge of truth out there. Questioning stuff is good so that you can really learn and belive what you have learned. So then you can help people with the same question. I pray that in your journey of life you find JESUS, and escape the penalty of a Godless life which is eternal damnation in a lake of fire. This is serious business friend. Repent of your sin, ask Jesus to come into your life and take over it. Ask him to guide you on your path to the eternal persuit of truth. And Go and spread the good news of the Gospel to all mankind for he shall return like a theif in the night. I pray this message reaches you in time.
