The most commonly used are jiu-jutsu, muay thai, wrestling and boxing. The current mma fighters don't use just one martial arts, they use techniques from many different ones, and would learn from any available, they have to be open minded and versatile as people get better and better everyday.

The UFC is MMA (mixed martial arts) which is exactly what they use, mixed martial arts. They combine boxing, muay thai, wrestling and brazilian jiu jitsu. Those are the basic ones that all MMA fighters have when they fight. Now there are different types of each that I listed, there is western boxing, extreme boxing, street boxing, boxing and dirty boxing. Then there is kickboxing and muay thai. Then Sambo, Greco Roman Wrestling, Wrestling and Submission Wrestling. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is on its own, but the closest thing it has to it is submission wrestling.

But the basis of any fighter period is boxing.

Grappling. I mean just about everyone can throw punches whether clean technical punches or looping haymakers, but 3 out of 5 fights ends up on the canvas & the guy who's skilled in grappling usually wins over the guy who wants the fight stood back up again.
