Here's the deal. I want to join the air force, and i'll be taking my ASVAB soon, but my scores may be somewhat low. I still want to get into the DEP ASAP though. My question is, after I take the ASVAB, choose an MOS, and enter the DEP, can I change my MOS later on? Furthermore, once in the DEP, can I, at sometime before basic training, retake the ASVAB to try to qualify for a different job?

I'm seriously considering joining very soon, but I must enter DEP first because of college. So any informative replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

one, you can't justtake the ASVAB as many times as you want. if you take it, and do poorly, you must wait 30 dauys before you take it again, and if the score is lower, you are stuck with the lower score. then you must wait 6 months before you can take it again.

changing your job in DEP Isn't easy, and many times is NOT authorized, so make darn sure you get what you want/are qualified for FIRST time up.

This is especially true in the overmanned Air Force. they have many more people trying to get in that they have need of and will only take the best of the best right now.

Forget the air force, they have about 100 different jobs to choose from. The army has well over 200. The air force does not make any more money then the army.. a e-1 in any Branch gets the same pay. They WILL NOT let you change your mos. You sign you go you do that job, if you pick a job they set it aside for you, you cant just change when ya want to. You might wanna grow up a bit before going in. Any good recruiter will help you study the asvab. The army gives you the opportunity to take as many computer asvab tests to get prepared. They helped my nephew go form a 48 score on the test at the recruiters office to a 73 when he took the real asvab. He is in his 3rd week of basic training...in the ARMY. Another thing, rank in the air force is slower then the army. rank =money and respect when you get to be a e-5 you can take the bncot ancot and pldc. I made e-6 in 5 years. most guys take 3 years to be a spec 4 e-4. Its what you put into it. just go talk to a Army recruiter, see what they have to offer you.

I'm not sure how it's done in the Air Force, but in the Army we have to wait until we're done with Basic and AIT. As soon as we get to our duty station; we than can raise our GT score, complete our first contract, re-enlist and hope for an opening in that MOS. Good luck Airmen.

You can change your AFSPC. My father was a grunt in the Army and then became and MP. My husband is going from AFReserves to Army active duty (AF does not take prior service even if the prior service was AF)

Its called AFSPC in the AF, not MOS. But you can usually change your AFSPC in basic I thought. Later down the road you can retrain into another career field.
