My kitchen has white walls, white cabinets with frosted glass in the front of half, black appliances. The counter tops are light grey. Floor is granite light grey color. Not repainting. Need to know what color of curtains you would use. Theme? At the moment there isn't one. No cherries, strawberries, roosters, or chickens. This kitchen has just been re-modeled. I was thinking of doing red and white gingham curtains. I have some vintage campbells items and a few kelloggs. Have a lot of those little funny signs (examples, No man was ever shot while doing dishes or Why can't I get further ahead rather than a bigger behind.) Not sure if I want to use these now. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

With that type of neutral 'background' you have many choices, but stick with cool colors; NO yellow/tan/orange, etc..you want COOL based colors; blue/navy/burgundy/red, colors like that...the Campbell/Kelloggs items sound great!! BUT gingham curtains would scream against the type of kitchen you have; (modern kitchen, country curtains? NO way) why not solid bold red curtains? it'd help to 'warm up'' the room..hope this helps..email if you have any questions..have fun!!!

From what you have said about your kitchen, it sounds too modern and sophisticated to have red gingham curtians, cherries, strawberries, roosters, chickens, etc. The color combination - greys and whites with black appliances -sounds sleek and modern. I'm not sure your funny signs would "go" with this kitchen.
I'm not exactly sure what would go, so I probably shouldn't even be trying to answer. But from what you're describing, I'm seeing a wine/grapes theme. Maybe a handsome standing wine rack for the counter to hold bottles of wine, with bunches of artificial grapes tucked here and there. Perhaps some accessories with the grape/wine motif, such as cannisters, bowls, pitchers, etc.
Of the motifs you have mentioned, roosters might be appropriate. I have seen some that are more on the sophisticated side than the "country" look. I have seen some colorful ceramic ones that are quite eye-catching.
With the gray, white, and black, you will need some pops of color, and you can add these in accessories, accent rugs, curtains, etc.

You are so lucky to have such a nice kitchen. I like the idea of the gingham and the campbells and kelloggs that would be cute. Have you looked at kitchen curtains lately? They are really pretty. They have some with scenes onthem that would be pretty. Go with what you like. But you need a little punch of color. I think the little signs would bring out a hint of your humor. Good Luck

I would put up the signs you have and choose a color from them that you want to pull out. Pick out a throw rug for your sink with the same color in it, then choose your curtains based on the scheme you have going. Any time you are anywhere, keep an eye out for that color.
I love the beady/garlandy strands that some people put on top of their cupboards near the ceiling. You can find that at craft stores or gift-type shops.
I also make it a point to keep fresh flowers in the house. I usually pick up the $3.00 bouquets when I'm at Wal-Mart or the grocery store, and make sure they have a color in them that would go with my kitchen. (For me it's either red or yellow, or both!) This is important to me when I know I have people coming over.
Be creative and have fun!!

I think the curtains are a great idea! We just did my girlfriends kitchen in red and black with tall and short vases on top of cabinets plates large red ones with black in front, flowers on table cream and red roses, black place mats with napkins with a red rose on them,on top of cabinets a black tricycle with greenery and a lamp post beside it ,we put 3 large black and red vases on floor all different sizes. Really turned out pretty of course now we have to do her living room! Good luck!

i think black and white gingham curtains will look nice. i think the red and white may be a bit country, which i don't think you're after. also, maybe a black and white toile would look real nice! like a french country bistro look. you can use your vintage tins and signs and get some more "french" ones.
