I believe that the love of hamburgers and french fries would stem from getting to go out to eat. It is something that most people would probably go out to get rather than make at home. It is sort of traditional to go out and get a hamburger. To me this is sort of a 50's thing. People would go out to drive-ins to get their food. And I assume hamburgers and french fries were probably what most people would get because it would be easier to eat in the car than a steak and baked potato. And of course they had to have ice cream for dessert. Could be wrong, but it seems right :)

Laziness for Hamburgers and French Fries
They are quick to make (even quicker if you go out and order it), they taste good, and they are relatively inexpensive.
Nostalgia for ice cream.
It reminds me, and others, of childhood memories.
