Are there any "Black Holes" with the OnStar system? I would bet there are areas that don't connect.

on star does not connect using satellites. it uses the cell phone network. how it works is the vehicle has a gps receiver on it that picks up the position of the vehicle the same way a hand held gps unit would work. when you push the on star button or the vehicle goes to call like if you have an accident the system basically uses the built in cell phone to call on star. it then communicates your vehicle position at that time. so the answer to your question is any ware there is not cell phone service your on star will not work. most people believe it's through the satellites, but its not all the satellites do is tell the vehicle its location. you would have to have a huge satellite dish on your roof to transmit a signal back up to space. i hope this answers your question

On star does not connect with satellite.. surprise surprise... It's all done with CDMA cellphones (digital phones to be exact in the trunk.. and the reason why after a year you pay every month for the service big for)
