My ex-husband signed off parental rights to our daughter. It is something that both parents have to agree on. There is paperwork that has to be filled out and filed with the court. Then there is a hearing and the judge either grants it or does not. If it is granted you are no longer obligated to pay child support. You ARE still responsible for any child support due before the paperwork was filed.

No, in most states the two are seperate issues. The only way that someone will not be held responsible for child support is if the child is legally adopted and the birth parent is no longer considered the parent. The state wants to make sure someone is paying for that child. You can get your parental rights taken away, say by not having visitation/custody - and still be responsible for paying child support each month. In most cases, when the woman remarries, she will still take the money each month from the childs birth father. It doesn't matter to her if the dad sees the child or not. The only time I have ever seen a woman willingly terminate child support is if she doesn't want for the child's father to interfere with her new marriage. She will "offer" for her new husband to adopt the child, thus the need for child support will no longer be needed.

I'm pretty sure it's not that hard, especially if your a man. I think all you have to do is sign a piece of paper and of course you will not have to pay child support anymore, cause technically the child would not be your concern anymore.

easy for the parent or the child?
children are our immortality ... our legacy.
parental rights can be terminated and child support obligations can be stopped.
but at what long-term cost?

the only way to get out of paying child support is to fill out legal abandonment papers that both parents have to sign.

not wanting to deal with the mother has nothing to do with the child and is selfish of someone to even consider. its not putting the child first, thats for sure.
NO, todays courts will not allow a parent to just 'sign away' their rights, unless there is someone who is willing to adopt the child (such as a new spouse).
