Today most vehicles that use to be made for heavy off road use have a looks that make me sick! They all look like a vehicle for soccer mom who want to look cool. They look so fragile. I miss old school jeep with "dull" color and cover with mud such as CJ, Willy, wrangler until mid 1990's, etc.. Especially one with various parts and custom rebuilt. .

However I don't know that much about vehicle. However I've never seen any modern jeep being used off road. So I'm wondering if my judgement is correct or if those modern jeep fool me with their looks?

Yes the new Jeep Cherokee's, Liberty, and Commander, I agree have turned into a soccer mom's 4 door minivan. Since Jeep went to push button 4WD I don't even bother looking at the new Jeeps anymore. I own a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4X4 and I take it offroad quite often and haven't had any problems. I also own a Jeep Rubicon, which is my vehicle for serious offroading. But for a true offroad vehicle buy a Wrangler, or Rubicon. They are built for serious offroad use.

Jeep has for many years, had the best suspensions and 4x4 systems anywhere. Jeep (along with some Dodge) vehicles feature an excellent 4x4 system. Pre-2005/2006 this is especially true because it is completely mechanical; meaning there are ZERO electrics such as solenoids and wiring to fail you and leave you stranded. New model Jeeps still have many of the exact same components, but they did add in some "convenience" electrics to the 4x4 systems. Everything is shielded and vibration-proofed, however, if you want something that can go in the water or crawl on rocks and have absolutely no worries about your 4x4 going out on you and leaving you stuck in 4-Lo or in 2 WD, go with a slightly used Jeep as far as the SUV's are concerned. Jeep Rubicon remains a bulletproof off road machine.

The new Jeep Rubicon is made for off roading, go to Jeep web sight and check it out. The Rubicon has old school true locking hubs built in,and a tough drive train and suspension. I fully agree with you on most modern mom suv's. Sad isn't it!?

No way, you can't trust them!

They lie cheat and steal. They'll break your heart.

Get over it, you weren't planning on taking it off road anyway.
