Are you kidding? Sickle cell anemia is just what it says, the Red blood cells are shaped like sickles. There is no advantage to this condition.

The Recessive trait that creates Sickle Cell Anemia was an adaptation designed to give resistance to Malaria which attacks red Blood cells... if it became double recessive through breeding it's a somewhat serious disorder but if you're a carrier then it is quite helpful.

Sickle cell anemia occurs when an abnormal form of hemoglobin (HbS) is produced. Such RBC can not host Malarial parasites.
