I was going thru some used cars website yesterday and came across an awfully low priced car. Though I was a little suspicious, I wrote to the seller and we are corresponding back and forth now. He is not giving me much details of the car and he has said that he is going thru a divorce and is currently out of US. So he asked me to give my full name and address so that he can open up an escrow for this transaction thru Fortis Escrow in US ( in Miami). What should I do? Should I just drop this or does he seem reliable? Fortis Escrow doesnt even have offices in US as per their website.

I just answered a similar add. Before I went through anything I googled the seller's name and found that he had listed similary cars on multiple websites, but they all had different years. Additionally, I pulled a car fax report on the vehicle and the year described in the ad - was different from the car fax report. This guy is asking me to use fortis escrow as well, but said the office is in New York.

I would say - don't go for it. Or ask him to fax you a copy of the car's title. I would also contact Fortis directly.

Do not deal with anyone who is going to make you jump thru hoops especially where you as the buyer are benifiting them more than the benefit you even if you are going to get a good car out of the deal...

drop it and go find another car..

Sounds like you're being screwed with. I wouldn't believe any of it. If he really wanted to sell it, he would meet you in person.
