just don't leave it out for too long. when putting it back make sure you close it tightly and try to finish it before a week.

It's disgusting and unhygenic. Food hygiene regulations state food should be decanted into a clean container for storing in the fridge. Theres nothing wrong with opening the tin, taking as much as you need in a bowl etc and put the rest in a cup or another bowl then cover with cling wrap and store in the fridge. (or if its a jar take as much as you need in a bowl etc the just put the jar back in the fridge)

the bacteria form your saliva can cause mould to grow faster so maybe it's a good idea to transfer to a bowl before you eat it.
