my friend threw out a little present (very little, small gift i just gave to be nice, no occassion) i gave her. when i asked her why she threw it out, she said she doesn't do gifts, because she thinks they are "tacky". I was really insulted. She didn't really seem to care about what i thought of her disposal of my gift. On some level i think she did it on purpose because we had an argument 2 weeks earlier.
the argument was about something entirely different, i thought she was okay, in fact i asked her a few times if everything was okay and i told her to let me know if somethng was bothering her. she denied it, but then did this and is acting all standoffish. I'm guessing she is still upset.
so...
1. what does she mean she thinks gifts are tacky?
2. do you think this has more to do with the argument or do you think she was telling the truth about finding gifts tacky?
3. is this just a passive aggressive way of showing she is still mad at me (even though she DENIES she's mad)???

Wow.
She is still mad at you, and how! Talk about passive-aggressive behavior.
1. She doesn't think gifts are tacky. Nobody does. She is trying to get a rise out of you.
2. Definitely has more to do with the argument.
3. She is still mad at you.

I cannot imagine anyone that callous and cold! To throw out a gift and to tell the person that they threw it out is terribly rude and inconsiderate.

Good luck. She doesn't sound like that great of a friend. She deliberately hurt your feelings, you know.

She's totally still mad at you.....and sounds like she's passive aggressive too. If you confronted her on it...she'd likely deny she's upset until you press her...then she'll probably go off. So be prepared for that...but you should bring up throwing the gift out, how it offended you, and the past fight....trust me...you'll get all the answers your looking for. May not be what you WANT to hear...but at least you'll know.

Sounds immature and very passive-aggressive. Also extremely rude. I honestly don't know if I'd keep being friends with someone so lacking in politeness, grace and class. There was nothing tacky in what you did, while her behavior is the definition of tacky. Unless you did something like kill her Mom or sleep with her husband two weeks ago, she was the one out of line.

Boy, this one really holds a grudge, that was ruthless, throwing out your gift. I think that she is tacky and you need a new friend. People really shouldn't play games with the heart

My vote is #3. #4 would be that she is an ill-mannered twit.

Find a new friend.

Personally, I LOVE surprises - little "I was thinking of you" things.

Tossing it is unkind.
