why is it that 87% of women are not satisfied with their looks?

Women are made to feel/believe that if we don't resemble Heidi Klum, Kate Moss, et al then we are unattractive and obese. And because the only ad campaign specifically designed to feature so-called "average" women was bashed by the vast majority of men and women.

Women, and young girls, compare themselves to the minute fraction of the world's female population that has attained recognition for being beautiful, and compared to that population most females "don't measure up." Simultaneously, beauty is still considered to be incredibly important for and to women, no matter what else they have going for them. (A woman can be a Harvard grad and be raking in the dough, but an enormous number of people will still rate her according to her looks, or at the very least use her lack of beauty to in some way qualify her other accomplishments.) So while just about everyone has something about which they're insecure women tend to focus their insecurity on looks (their own).

I don't know where that 87 percent figure came from or to what population it is ascribed -- presumably American women. But if it's correct, it's sad, but I can't say it's shocking.

Because some women see that size 0, 5'10", blonde hair, and blue eyed women on TV and think that is what they have to look like and if they don't look like that, the women believe that they'll constantly have to change their image to satisfy a man.

Cause they look at all those magazines with the skinny models and fancy hair do's.They see all the make up commercial and want to look like they do.Once they start putting all these things in their hair and on their face they become addicted to it.Nobody wants to be ugly but many beautiful woman that don't need any help still put all this stuff on their face and hair.

I am surprised that the number would be that high. I am satisfied with my looks. I guess a lot of people can always find a flaw in themselves, but really those imperfections are what make us who we are and more special.

Lots of factors. Me, for instance, felt the pressure from the media who idealises "perfection" and trying to meet everyone's expectations especially the guys. In turn, I have low self-esteem and such and such. If there are easy ways to it, I would tune everything out in a heart beat. Thing is, it's not.

This is because women want to look perfect for their man. We believe that the better we look, the more our man, or men will like us. Though I have noticed that men only talk to women who look good or hold themselves in high status. But in answering your question, women want to know that they are beautiful, whether if be for themselves or their partner.

Because when its comes to us women, are biggest critic is ourselves, everyone wants something else, its how we work, see have something good, but if there's something better we want it, its how our society works these days, and its the same thing for women, we see women who we thing are prettier so we want it.
