My husband had pretty good internet access last deployment (04-05). He moved to several FOBs, but he is a trucker so he traveled alot between them so he had a chance to check many of them out. I believe all had freebies from MWR, but as I remember, they were older and not many of them, so there was always a wait. And wait my husband did many times. I remember 1 time he waited 2 hours just to have a 30 minute IM convo.

And most have cafes run by Iraqis. Dont remember how much it cost to use those computers, but husband often did.

And then there was my favorite FOB that had internet access in the soldier's rooms. For $40 a month, they had net. Of course that was subject to being slow because so many soldiers were on it, and the soldier had to have a laptop, and then commo blackouts. But WOOOO HOOO how we did love that net in the room while he was there.

All that to say, yes, they have access to the internet. Some more than others, but the military realizes how important commo is for morale, so they make it happen.

Most people have internet access, depending on their job and location. The big variable is how often he will have internet access. Infantrymen get the internet less often than many office workers, because they work outdoors all day where as office workers often work on computers all day. I've never met anyone who didn't get any internet access ever while they were deployed. No matter what his internet access is like, however, nothing beats getting a real letter in the mail every now and then. Send him letters in addition to emails. You can hold on to letters for the rest of your life. Someday your great grandchildren may be very grateful for the memoirs.

Yes he will be able to email you, my husband is over there now, and i receive emails and phone calls from him atleast once a week. He is at an outpost right now and can still do this. Plus they have contractors over there from different companies who offer email and phone service for a small fee every month, but we're still waiting on them to come hook it up, he's been there a little over two months. For the time being my husband goes to internet Cafe's when ever he gets a chance to go to the F.O.B i'm not going to lie, it sucks not being able to talk to him everyday like I'm used to so usually when he gets a chance to use the internet he has a chance to use the phone so he opts for the phone. be strong it will all be ok

Im currently on my 2nd tour in Iraq and both times Ive had access to the internet and phones on nearly a daily basis, and this time around I even have internet in my living quaters. I used to have to go to an internet cafe, but keep in mind the internet here really sucks its unstable and very slow its takes like 15 mins to send someone a picture :( but until he gets to where he is going you really cant tell what he will have available.

My husband and I actually met on the internet while he was deployed to Iraq. He went to the MWR and used the computers there and his roommate had his own laptop. Maybe things are different on different bases but I hear lots of stories of people meeting on the internet during deployments.

It absolutely depends on where he goes. I have a friend who's husband is in Iraq right now and he had very inconsistent internet access.

However, they've created centers for soldiers to use. He may not have the most time in the world. But he'll be able to contact you.

yes, things are built up over there and there are lots of internet cafes and phones to use. there may be times when your hubby doesnt have access to these things when out on a special mission, but for the most part, he will have internet access and even be able to call you pretty often.

These days, most troops get internet. It depends on where he will be working out of. My marine buddy actually has hook up in his living quarters on his own laptop. And when I was in mosul and baghdad we had MWR's that have free internet and phones.
