In a recent question I got the impression that some Christians can't see the point of an atheist existence. Well, actually the term used was 'evolutionist'.

As in "I believe the evolutionists who kill themselves. All the rest appear to be liars. Otherwise, why do they even bother when everything they are, everything they do, everyone they touch will all eventually end in nothingness"

So I wonder if that's how you feel? If someone is not a Christian is their life pointless? If you don't believe in a soul, then you can't love? Does this include Buddhists? If we weren't created by a god, then our lives are meaningless?

Enlighten me please! Personal views preferred to biblical references, thank you.

Whether you believe you have a soul or not doesn't nullify your capacity to love, and it doesn't nullify the fact that you do have a soul. You don't have to be a Christian to love, either. Jesus said that nonbelievers love those who love them, which I am sure that you do. But can you love those who hate you and do evil to you? Isn't this the higher road? When we do evil right back to those who do evil to us, it is a never-ending cycle. Is your life pointless? I see that you don't believe in a life after death. If that is true, then why would your life have a point? It would be just a vapor that appears for a little while and then is gone, and you won't be remembered just a few years after you are gone. What Christians want you to realize is that God has a purpose for you. It may not be glamourous, but when you have fulfilled it, you will have the joy of hearing your creator say to you, "Well done, good and faithful servant; enter into your rest". God doesn't want to be a dictator over you, He simply wants you to give Him the glory due to Him, and He wants you to have everlasting life with Him. But it gets frustrating when you are trying to help someone see the goodness of God, and they won't see it becuase they love the things of this world, and the momentary pleasure of sin, not looking ahead to the tragic price that it carries.

I guess my first response is how horrible. Without investigating further I would say from what you have explained it doesn't sound like anyone was preaching Gods love to you.

Your life pointless? Well you answer that for me. . . . . . .you are an intelligently designed human being that if you are here by chance, what are you here for? Your life pointless? I think not. I think people are commenting on the fact that atheists claim that they are here to just exist. Then they just go back into the earth? Well do you feel your existence counts for something? Of course you do, I think Christianity just wants you to ponder on the fact if there is no such thing as a God or any God why then what does your purpose fulfill?

There is a point to you being here. God loves you for no other reason than b/c he does. That is a hard concept for humans. We think as humans: Why? What do I need to do? The beauty is just have faith and believe.

God loves atheists, christians, criminals, children, you name it. We are all the same. The only difference between you and I is that I have faith. I have faith and have accepted Christ. He does the rest. Thats all you have to do and that is what should be preached. If someone says that if you are not a Christian your life is pointless they will be judged, not by me but by the one that judges. They will be judged in the same manner in which they judged you.

God Bless

Of course your life is not pointless. You can have close to 100 yrs of adult life to enjoy life with all it's joys and sorrows. At the same time it is extremely hard to discuss your question because I am tainted because of my belief in god and the bible. Your last sentence seems to disallow any bible conotation. But it has eluded me why a person couldn't have both a meaningful life now and after death have everlasting life in paradise. I guess I am leaning towards the old P.W. but ain't no way I'm going to drag that in this. You know I keep hearing that the reason atheist don't believe in god etc is because there is no evidence. Well I can't argue that. As we both know belief in god and the bible is faith based. But I also get the idea that there is more to it than just no evidence. It...it seems as though atheist don't WANT there to be a god. Like if God actually appeared in front of them and PROVED to the atheist's satisfaction that He in fact was God, the atheist would still say "but I don't want there to be a God. Why do i get that feeling, I know it is unfounded but remember I am saying it is just an fleeting impression. No , no way am I saying that an atheist life is pointless . I am saying why wouldn't someone want it to be so much more. What is it pride, too intellegent to need a God. Too many commandments to cramp one's style. I am responding to this question with as much respect and dignity for you as I can muster. I hope you take it in the spirt that I intend it. Live long and prosper. Ps this spell checker isn't worth a damn, its still going as I type!

Before I became a Christian, I didn't believe in God...well maybe, do to childhood brainwashing, I believed in something but I didn't consciously exercise the faith. Did I have a purpose before? I don't know but it got me through till my life was changed and then I got saved. I wasn't looking for God, I was content with all the crap my life had previously been about. I was a decent but self centered individual. Looking back, what I was then seems insignificant now but it kept me going up to the point I became a Christian. Stick it out, life's an adventure, be a participant!!!!

The operative word in that sentence is "some." Not all Christians feel that way, and in fact, I would hope that it's only a small minority who do.

Do I think that your life would be richer and more enjoyable if you were a Christian -- yes, I do. Do I think your life is pointless or without love because you're a non-believer -- no, not at all.

I do know that I am very happy and secure in my faith. I'd like to see everyone as blessed and at peace as I am, that's all. . .can't blame a girl for trying. ;-)

Your question is a bit muddled but I'll tell you my own thoughts. I believe God created this world and everything in it, when He felt like man allowed sin to prevail He sent his son to face and conquer every temptation man faces, in other words... to demonstrate a sin free life. His son was killed for it... by men. So, God's gift was that He would sacrifice the life of His son to ensure that sinful man would not be sacrificed... salvation being a gift not something we can earn. Through accepting this gift we develop a personal relationship with God and want to share the prize with everyone and are led to good works with His guidance. So a life lived in deference to God is a waste. 80 or so years in this world and then nothing? I don't believe that, I believe in an eternal hereafter and don't want to be there alone.

Yea my friend thats exactly the way i feel. I trust and believe in GOD will all my soul and nothing else and so i feel and have seen that is definitle pointless living if iam living without CHRIST because i have found that nothing i do works if i dont place HIM in front of it. Or it prospers for a season then after its just dies or in the case of hapiness i dont have hapiness outside of HIM i tried it lasted a while but then depression came in again so it was by proof in my own life that i realized it wasnt worth living except living without JESUS.

You were born a human, with a heart, a brain, and a soul. Things that no one can take from you. Just because you don't believe in them, doesnt mean that they dont exist. Just because your not christian, doesnt mean you dont have a right to live, love or feel.Every life has a meaning, whether we realize it or not, whoever said that to you is obviously ignorant, and has a wavering belief in their religion, otherwise they would have not said something so hurtful to you.

That is a rediculous notion. If this were true, why did Christ come to die for the entire world's salvation? The door is open for ALL because God LOVES them ALL.

Peter said in his second epistle that God is not willing that any should perish but that ALL should come to repentance. THAT is the heart of God toward all atheists and all in between.

The entire Bible was written to show the way of redemption. If all atheists and unbeleivers ceased to exist, to whom would the Light of His love be demonstrated?

No. It is very contrary. For God so loved the entire world that He was willing to sacrifice His own Son so that through Him, those that believed would find the free gift of eternal life.

THAT is the heart of the Gospel.

while you don't believe God put you here for a reason.... i do. whether it's to test the Christians in their beliefs, to learn about God or to give Christians someone to try and enlighten & pray for ; ) a good friend is agnostic and another is a wiccan - they have both challenged my beliefs and my own understanding and thus, made me stronger. it is not and will never be my right to say who is to be here and who shouldn't. since you don't believe in God then concern over heavenand hell is not for you -however i do worry for your immortal soul. i do not believe you can't love, nor that your life is meaningless. i do however, pray for your salvation.
