I plan on adding fats from high fat vegetables, nuts, seeds and healthy oils. My main protein source will be from assorted brown and wild rices, along with an assortment of high protein beans for a complete amino acid profile.

I think it should be possible. Any advice or experienced opinions out there!

Im not opposed to adding a vegan protein powder, like 'Vega', hard-boiled eggs or whatever else is suggested - aside from chicken meat. I still love meat, yet Im taking a break for awhile.

It looks like you are trying to do a modified version of Atkins, and that won't work.

With Atkins, your fat comes from butter and meat and your carbs come from dark green, leafy vegetables to get you to ketosis. Rice and beans have too many carbs to work for the induction stage of Atkins.

on paper it seems possible although the term "high protein vegetarian diet" is not exactly accurate. the bioavailability of non-animal protein sources is low at about an average of 55%. so say a 3.5 oz serving of lentils has 25 grams of protein after digestion only 12 grams remains usable for biological processes. that being the case I would definetly be adding soy isolates to your daily diet to bring up the usable protein intake.

oh yea, the rice is going to be a big problem. you may just want to look into carb cycling with a vegetarian diet

Yes, ketosis is possible on that diet because it is not easy to create the complete protein balance from many of the foods, unless they are organic, grown on fertile soil and are not genetically modified. That is becoming harder and harder to find these days.

High protein vegetarian diets lack many nutrients our body needs. First of all, vitamin B-12 can only be found in meat. Additionally, the way the body absorbs B-12 is from a protein enzyme released in the stomach that breaks the large molocule of B-12 into a size the body can assimilate it. If this does not happen, the B-12 will not get absorbed into the body like it should. The highly acclaimed vegetarian Pavlov Aeriola died at 62 from a stroke and it is documented that B-12 can help prevent strokes. There are many claims that B-12 can be put into the body with patches, pills, etc., but this is a lot of marketing hype. Have any manufacturers ever proved that the B-12 ends up in the body in a fully digestible form from one of their products? None that I have ever found.

If the high protein you are talking about is SOY protein, don't eat it. This will make you deficient in iron. Soy products, unless they are fermented like the Japanese people eat soy, prevent mineral absorption and slow your thyroid down that affects the way you metablolize many foods.

To get a complete protein from beans, you need to add corn to compliment the beans.

Healthy oils is a very general statement and you need to be very careful of a lot of the main stream media hype for a lot of the oils they are touting as good for you.

Canola oil is horrible. It is now genetically engineered and despite the $50,000,000 spent by the Canadian government to get it through the FDA, still contains a lot of eurcic acid that over time causes major health issues and the way it is processed leaves trans fats in the oil. It does make a great mosquito repellent because bugs won't even eat it.

Soybean oil is also horrible. It is also now genetically engineered and along with the health issues this creates, the other health issues still exist from this killer bean.

Despite the negative hype the soy and canola industry have put on coconut oil, it has been shown to reduce your bad LDL cholesterol and raise your good HDL as well as promote a healthier thyroid gland, unlike soy that supresses it. Olive oil is the basis for the Mediterranean diet and with a little garlic makes for a very good oil to use. Walnut oil, avocado oil, and grape seed extract oil is very good for cooking because it does not break down until about 450 degrees, unlike canola that breaks down at very low temperatures. Stay completely away from hydrogenated fats and foods that are labeled "contain vegetable oils."

Stay away from commercial beef products. Eat only beef from cows fed grass and no antibiotics or hormones. The grass fed cows produce very high omega 3 fatty acids, unlike the commercial beef from Angus cattle that produce 20:1 omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids that are terrible for you.

You need to eat eggs and whey protein for the maximum benefit of a complete protein. Your body will love you for it.

good luck

Seems to me that any time your body is searching for an alternative fuel source because of a lack of carbohydrates in your sysytem and you start burning fats you will enter ketosis.
