you need to just watch for bleeding, if you start bleeding call your doctor immediately, or go to the emergency room. the only threat to the baby is if it comes off of the uterus. when you are close to delivering they will take another ultrasound, if it is obstructing the baby way out, they will most likely take the baby by c-section. good luck, and don't worry. just watch for bleeding and take care.

I had partial placenta previa with my first child and he was delivered naturally, healthy & nine pounds. Placenta previa has to do with where the placent lies in your uterus. Full Previa is when the placenta is blocking the cervix, therefore the baby cannot exit before the placenta and a c-section is necessary. P-P does not create any discomfort or problems for the baby. At 17 weeks you have an excellent chance for this problem to correct itself. The placenta moves as your body gets bigger. If you have ANY bleeding or spotting go to the doctor. The biggest problem with this issue is that the placenta can start to "fall out" of your body and this DOES put the baby in distress, you will likley be put on bedrest for the remainder of your pregnancy if your doctor is genuinley concerned. HOWEVER, i highly reccomend a 2nd opinion before doing this, as sometimes blood clots near a low-lying placenta can look like placenta previa but are relativley harmless. Don't be scared, placenta previa only has to do with the placement of your placenta in relation to the size of your womb, your baby won't be handicapped or blind, or born with 11 fingers. (BUT if you go into labor and try to deliver vaginally with PP your baby will be starved of oxegen and die quickly, hence the bedrest and caution) You will probably have a few more checkups then you pregnant peers but you'll do just fine!

Oh dont let them tell you you might have a special nees baby. I had placenta previa with my first son, and am 24 wks preg. with my second baby, and I have a partial placenta previa this time too.
Here is a link to some info about it, and don't worry- this early in your pregnancy, the placenta is likely to "Shift" and you will be fine...
Don't worry, you shouldbe fine! AND there is NO evidence of special needs babies with this condition, even if you have it until you deliver the baby!!!

I'm pretty sure that the placenta being low won't make your baby have special needs.
You're still very early, give it time to move. I had the same thing you did and it moved up on its own. I have a daughter who is most definitely healthy today.
