My father in law, and I are very close. He is like a father to me, and has been there more than mine ever has. I want to do something to sort of make him feel special, and show him in front of everybody how much I love him, and am happy to have him as my father in law. I don't want to just give a toast, I want to do something more than that. He's not like an in law, he's like my Dad. I want him to know I feel that way. My fiance's mother always says "Daddy's little girl" when talking about us. My dad hasn't been that good to me, but has made good on it the past few years, so I'm going to have him walk me down the isle, because I think forgiving is the right thing to do, but I want my father in law to know how much I adore the fact that he has always been there for me, and how special he is to me.

You could have a special dance with him or just find a nice card that says how you feel or write him a letter telling him how you feel. I wish I could think of something more creative. I think you are lucky however to have that kind of relationship with your in laws. Having a not so good relationship makes the marriage harder.

I don't think its a good idea for him to walk you down the aisle. You said your real dad has been trying to be good to you lately, and you should recognize that. Plus, the walking down the aisle tradition is your father handing you over to your husband. In that respect, it doesn't make sense for your husband's dad to do it.

So, having said that, I think a special dance (maybe to that song "Feels Like Home") would be nice. I do think the most meaningful and most appropriate way to handle this situation is to write a very special thank you to him in your program. that way, everyone will read it and know how special your FIL is to you, and it probably won't step on your dad's toes.

Good Luck and you are so lucky to have great in-laws!! (I do too:))

Maybe have your father in law walk you half way down the aisle to your dad and let him continue the way down or vice versa

You can have both your father and father in law walk you down the aisle. One on each side. They are important to you.

You could always have both your father and your father-in-law walk you down the aisle. It shows that they are both very important people in your life.

When you do the father daughter dance, dance half of it with your dad and half of it with your father in law.
