That is unlikely, for the same reason that the microwave can't send out dangerous microwave energy. The metal box of the microwave acts as a Faraday cage, a closed container that shields the electromagnetic energy inside the microwave from getting out.

It doesn't ruin the cell phone if you don't turn the microwave on. But it doesn't ring. I just tried it. My phone works still by the way.

It depends if the microwave is on or off. If it's on, then you're screwed. If it's off, then there might be a chance the phone can receive a call if there is good signal. =D

somebody post an answer to this that has actually tried it. I put my phone in the microwave and i still had reception, but pussed out on calling myself since i have an expensive phone...but im curious.
