I've heard you can do this. I want to use my GI BILL and go to college, but with a general under honorable conditions i am not eligible to use this. It is also hurting my career advancement. I recieved this discharge because i was an alcoholic but am reformed now and attend AA meetings regularly. I just want to fix my past but do not know the first place to start

Have to send an appeal to the Board of Appeals. And if you have documentation supporting your claims should be able to do it.

It is possible to upgrade your discharge paperwork to Honorable Discharge but the fact of the matter is that it is traced and there is a number code on that paperwork that government agencies and civil employers use that will let them know that it used to be General Discharge under Honorable Conditions. You are stuck with that for the rest of your life.

Go and talk to your VA Rep, he can fix everything up for you to have it repealed. I had a friend who did this. The VA Rep had him get a note from his present employer saying how much of a good worker he was. He also had to get personal reference letters from the pastor of his church, and friends. I dont know if you went to IRaq or anything but my friend did. He was diagnosed with Post-Tramatic Stress Syndrome afterwards. He was dishcharged because he had pot in his system- which makes since to smoke when you have PTSS. It took almost a year, but it was over turned. Hope you can have it overturned. He got his benefits after this. Good Luck.

Send an appeal to the Board of Appeals. The odds are slim that you will get your discharged upgraded, but the worst they can do is say no.
