I am looking for something I can put on my shoulder that symbolizes my 6 month old daughter. I also would like her name to be incorporated in it, if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Her name is Iris.

I like the foot print idea. Also, theres this image on yahoo of this sleeping baby angel...it's so adorable..maybe they could do something like that but make the angel look more like your daughter?

Some common tattoos to "symbolize" children...
Bears holding flowers...In your case, a cartoon style bear holding an Iris would fit perfectly. Newborn footprints with the name and birthday done in script is always fitting.
I'd hit some studios and talk to some artists and see what they say. Or, you could go look at flash and find something that sparks your interest. Any good reputable artist wouldn't have a problem customizing the work to fit your exact wants :o)

Iris, this is what I know about Iris:
In Greek Mythology Iris was associated with the rainbow
Iris is a plant
AND it's a blue-violetish color.
I don't know how you feel about plants or rainbows though.
A lot of people get their childrens foot prints tattoos on them with their name somewhere by it.

My daughters name is Lilly so I got a Lily tattooed on me. Why not get a Iris?

Maybe take a photo of your two together instead. Tattoos are dangerous as far as infection goes and as time goes by your skin will age and the tattoo will fade and look gross.
Set a good example for your child. In the future they are going to look down on tattoos; right now it is just a big fad but a permanent one if you get your skin trashed.

heres an idea
when babies are first born they get prints of their feet, you could go to a really talented artist and have her little foot prints on you somewhere (^_^)
